17 killed, 18 injured in blast at explosives factory in Nagpur

At least 17 people were killed and 18 injured in an explosion in the ammunition manufacturing company in Raulgaon village in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Sunday (March 1, 2026).

“The incident of explosion is unfortunate and tragic. The relief work has been accelerated and so far 17 people have died. 18 people injured in this incident are shifted to Nagpur,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paying heartfelt tributes to the deceased.

Maharashtra government announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the kin of those who died in the explosion at an explosives factory in Raulgaon in Nagpur district.

“Apart from this, the concerned company will also provide financial assistance to their families,” said Mr. Fadnavis, adding a thorough investigation into the incident has been ordered.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also informed that the NDRF, SDRF, PESO, and DISH teams have reached the spot.

The company is identified as SBL Energy Limited factory, a mining and industrial explosives manufacturer, where the explosion occurred as per the police officials.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule pointed out that the strict action will be taken against the culprits, saying the incident of explosion at SBL Industrial Explosives Manufacturer Company in Raulgaon, Nagpur district is extremely heartbreaking and unfortunate.

“Rescue teams of NDRF and SDRF have immediately reached the spot and relief work is going on a war footing. I myself am in constant touch with all the agencies and am monitoring the situation,” Mr. Bawankule posted on X

President Droupadi Murmu condoles loss of lives

President Droupadi Murmu condoled the loss of lives in an explosion at a factory in Maharashtra’s Nagpur and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of lives in the explosion at a factory in Nagpur, Maharashtra. I express my profound condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” Ms. Murmu said in a post on X in Hindi.

PM Modi announces ₹2 lakh ex gratia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in a blast at an explosives factory in Maharashtra’s Nagpur and announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

“The explosion at a factory in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is deeply distressing. My condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is assisting those affected,” Mr. Modi said in a post on X.

“An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given ₹50,000,” the PM said.
