SYNOPSIS: Embraer strengthened its India focus through MoUs with Hindalco and Mahindra to boost aerospace manufacturing, MRO capabilities, and C-390 production, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative and defence modernisation efforts.
Headquartered in Brazil, Embraer is one of the world’s aerospace industry leaders, operating in the commercial aviation, executive jets, defence & security, and services & support segments. It designs, develops, manufactures and markets aircraft and systems, providing customer support and services. Since its inception, it has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft to over 100 countries and to 60 armed forces across 5 continents.
Recognised as a leading manufacturer of commercial jets with a seating capacity of up to 150 passengers, Embraer is also Brazil’s largest exporter of high-value-added goods. The company operates an extensive global footprint, with industrial facilities, offices, service centres, and parts distribution networks across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
India is a strategically important market for Embraer across its core business verticals. The company currently has 47 aircraft operating in the country across commercial aviation, executive aviation, and defence segments. This includes five Embraer VIP jets used by the Indian government and three EMB 145 AEW “Netra” aircraft deployed by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Against the backdrop of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, two major listed Indian companies have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Embraer to strengthen collaboration and boost domestic aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
With a market cap of Rs. 2.09 lakh crores, the stock hit an intraday high at Rs. 937.8 on Friday, up by around 4 percent on BSE. On 20th February, Embraer and Hindalco Industries Limited signed an MoU to explore potential business opportunities in India. The collaboration will focus on evaluating the feasibility of manufacturing aerospace-grade aluminium raw materials domestically. This initiative is aimed at supporting Embraer’s industrial expansion plans while reinforcing its commitment to the government’s Make in India mission.
The MoU comes as Embraer continues to deepen its engagement in India, actively collaborating with industry leaders and government stakeholders. As part of its ongoing evaluation process, the company has reviewed a wide range of domestic industrial capabilities, including aerostructure assembly, precision machining, metal forming, composites manufacturing, wiring systems, along with hardware and software development. Hindalco Industries Limited is primarily engaged in the business of two main streams of business, namely Aluminium and Copper.
In the Aluminium business, it has presence across the entire value chain starting from mining of bauxite and coal through production of primary Aluminium (Upstream Segment) and value added products (Downstream Segment) like flat rolled product, extrusion and light gauge products for use in various applications like packaging, can, foil, battery enclosures, food and beverage as well as products for use in aerospace, automotive, electronic, EV, transportation, building and construction and other industrial products.
In the Copper business, Hindalco has one of the largest single location Copper smelting facilities in India. The company produces copper cathode, copper rods and precious metals. It is also expanding its business horizon in Internally Grooved Copper Tube and Copper Scrap Recycling.
Mahindra & Mahindra Limited
With a market cap of Rs. 4.25 lakh crores, the stock hit an intraday high at Rs. 3,446.1 on Friday, up by around 0.5 percent on BSE. On 19th February, Embraer and the Mahindra Group announced plans to collaborate on establishing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities in India for the C-390 Millennium aircraft, subject to its selection under the IAF’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program.
The two companies had earlier entered into a strategic partnership in October 2025 to manufacture the C-390 Millennium multi-mission military transport aircraft in India. The partnership aims to support the Indian Air Force’s MTA programme through local production, thereby strengthening indigenous aerospace manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.
The C-390 Millennium is regarded as one of the most advanced military transport aircraft in its category. It offers a payload capacity of up to 26 tonnes, along with superior speed and operational range compared to other medium-sized transport aircraft.
The proposed MRO facility in India will provide comprehensive, in-country maintenance and lifecycle support for the C-390 fleet, ensuring enhanced operational readiness and availability. This initiative further strengthens the joint commitment of Embraer and Mahindra to position the C-390 Millennium as a strong contender for India’s future medium transport aircraft requirements.
Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group is one of the largest and most admired multinational federations of companies, with a leadership position in farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology and financial services in India and is the world’s largest tractor company by volume. It has a strong presence in renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality and real estate.
