“The anti Fintiri Campaign is highly despicable, unjustified, and embarrassingly shameful, uncalled for and is doomed to fail”, he stated.
“It will only be an act of feigning ignorance and mischief, if anyone living in Adamawa State is in oblivious of the tremendous and daring policies and programmes that are making Adamawa work again”.
The issues of power supply to parts of Adamawa state, especially the Michika and Madagali areas that has been ravaged by Boko Haram insurgents over the past years, has become a worrisome issue to the state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
However, respite seems to be in the offing following the determination of the Fintiri led administration to effectively, address the situation and this is yielding positive and tremendous fruits.
This is against the backdrop of misleading information, allegedly been peddled by a serving member of the National Assembly from Adamawa state, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District following perceived disputes between him and the state Governor.
According to sources in the Adamawa state capital, Yola, the dispute emanated over efforts at reconnecting Michika and Madagali communities with electricity by the state governor, Umaru Fintiri.
Available reports from concerned stakeholders have however revealed that, owing to the good intentions of the Fintiri led administration, the state Government has gained the upper hand with the immediate take-off of the re-electrification project.
A source in Madagali disclosed to this medium that, “following the state government’s commitment towards actualization of the project about 65% of the contract sum has been paid to the contractors who has also, mobilized to site”.
“I can reliably inform the public that all needed for the project have been provided with 65 percent of the contract sum paid to the contractors. Work has already commenced as 29 Transformers and all the Poles needed for the project are on ground”, the source told this medium”.
“Right now, it is a matter of weeks before power supply will be restored to the communities. It is sad that the Senator who claimed to have started the process of restoring power to Michika and Madagali in October, 2019 and promised that the residents would celebrate Christmas with electricity, which gladdened the hearts of the Governor and people of the area, has clearly failed several months after his promise”, he stated.
Reacting to allegations and claims that a consultancy firm has been invited to assess the damage done to the power lines in the communities following insurgency attacks by the Boko Haram group, the highly placed source responded thus;
“Senator Abbo claimed to have hired consultants to assess the damage to the power lines of Michika and Madagali. I am aware that he also claimed to have written letters to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company and the North East Development Commission, aside visiting the Minister of Power on the need to reconnect the area to the National Grid. Unfortunately, this has been revealed to be false, misleading and totally untrue”.
A concerned activist from the Adamawa state capital who would rather not have his name mentioned in print, disclosed that the dispute between the Governor and the young senator is depressing and not good for the development of the state.
According to the activist, it is depressing to see young and bright minds join forces with external elements who have no business with Adamawa state, disparage their own for selfish purposes.
He described the entire episode as unhealthy and unprogressive especially with the moves of Senator Abbo who claims to have allocated resources towards the execution of the project.
According to him, “whether these claims are true or not, the most important issue here is to get the area reconnected with electricity. Unfortunately, the Senator has become paranoid and is attacking Governor Fintiri over His Excellency’s determined and evidently effective efforts at getting the Michika/Madagali axis to enjoy infrastructural facilities including electricity”, he stated.
“The Senator, should know better that legislative business follows due process of sponsoring bills, motions, lobbying and budgetary allocation which he has not been seen doing”, he cautioned.
“It is also on record that the extension of power to Mubi, Michika and Madagali is from Damboa through Uba Askira and not from Mubi as claimed by the Senator, though, recently, work is on progress to put Mubi and the other towns on the 33KVA Power line”, he pointed out.
“Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s resolve to ensure that the people of Michika and Madagali return to the good days of power supply to the affected areas was not under any motivation or consideration, but the welfare of the people. On the other hand, the action of the Senator is an attempt to provide damaging narratives about the good intentions of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
“It is surprising that the Senator has engaged in weaving conspiracy theories concerning the restoration of power supply to Michika and Madagali which has been cut off from National Grid following the activities of Boko Haram insurgents. This is sad and very unfortunate”.
“Fifth columnists in the state should allow the Governor focus on delivering sustainable and quality democratic dividends to the good people of the state”, he stressed.
The activist called on the Governor Fintiri not be distracted by the actions of the Senator as the good people of the state are strongly aware that his administration is committed to serving the people and ensuring the delivery of Democracy Dividends through its Eleven Point Agenda.
He therefore called on all concerned, to therefore, advise the Senator and his cohorts to play politics with decorum, sincerity and a genuine desire to uplift the living standards of the people.
“Governor Fintiri is committed to these ideals and invites genuine patriots to join him in these onerous tasks”, he concluded.
