Nigeria: railway workers decries non-payment of salary

Nigeria railway corporation, Abuja-kaduna railway transport services workers have decried non payment of salary for over four months.
Staffs sources who spoke to our correspondent in confidence said they have not being hearing from the contractor for over four on the reasons for the delayed.

Findings revealed that the female contractor and banker working in Lagos did not show up or communicated to the pathetic looking staffs, for over four months on salary issues now.
“We have our family and we pay transport and feeding, but nobody is telling us anything about our salary, and we’re afraid of speaking out for fear of single out and sacked”, they said.
Investigation also revealed that the lady in charge of contract staff (Name withheld) and favourite of Minister of transport, Mr Chubeike Amechi’s, is working in Lagos and always unavailable.

“She is yet to tell us whether the railway is no more paying the contracting staff salary since April, even though we’re doing our work as cleaner and other things in the train stations in Abuja and kaduna”, the staffs lamented.

The contract workers said they are been paid N20,000 only on monthly basis as salary, but surprised that government could not afford the money anymore.
Contacted on 09054427699, the Nigerian railway official in Abuja office whose name was not clearly spelt out insisted that our reporter must come to their office in person, saying he has no authority to talk to media. He however could not assist journalists with a number of any authority to speak as demanded and pleaded
