By Achadu Gabriel
Kaduna- The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, EDI-JEN Group of companies, Chief Dr. Benjamin Omale has expressed confidence on Nigeria Union journalists, NUJ, correspondent chapel kaduna state and promised to collaborate with them on their challenges.
The chairman, an oil businessman who made the remarks while receiving Award of Excellence as Philanthropist of the Year 2019/2020, in his office, in kaduna, said his company will looked into the challenges facing members of Nuj Correspondent chapel, kaduna with a view to assist them.
Chief Omale who was given an award based on merit said, as voice of the voiceless people in the society, he’s not surprised that the Union would have challenges especially because of their stands on the truth in the face of glaring corruptions in the country..
He said even though Journalism is a cherished profession by all especially in Western world, corruptions in government made them to always be at conflicts in Nigeria because of their constitutional responsibility of holding governnment acvountable to the people.
Accordibg him, it’s not possible to be the voice of the voiceless and stand on the truth and be riched in the kind of corrupt system and governance we have in the Nigeria.
“I am greatly honored and very pleased to received your most prestigious award. Journalists everywhere are the voice of the voiceless, they represents and bridge the gap between the authority and the people of this country”, he said.
He also said “I have, for a long time holds high respect for them because, without journalists we cannot just stand up and know what is happening around us and our lives.
“You know when someone stand up and speaks the truth, people takes him to be a poor man. You know, you can never be rich when you don’t behave abnormal, if you want to be poor, you have to be truthful in the country.
“I’ve a journalist friend who told me they hunted for and arrested because of some of their objective news reports.
“So, i am not surprise when you make your requests during your speech about your accommodation, transportion and some of other needs which you are really in need of them.
“In a well standard economy, journalism should be a socially valued alms because government work with them to promote for what their polices but thesame government disconnects itself from journalists in Nigeria because leaders don’t want to do what is right and so, they becomes enemity with them and therefore they loose their prime right they are supposed to get with the government.
“So, you represent us, where we are voiceless, you voice us and that is why i take your case very important one and great Union”, he said.
Dr. Omale said one other things that impressed him most was deemphasing monitory value and ability to investigate and gathered information about somebody’s good work in the society from the grassroots even when such personalities have not interacted with them.
“Because i have not seen any of you, neither have i interacted with you before, but on your own, you have seen me worthy through your investigation from the grassroot where you got your information concerning me.
Earlier, the Nuj correspondent chapel Chairman Mr Midat Joseph, said the NUJ award anywhere, in the world is not monetary but for those who have torched the lives of the society positively like chief Omale, going by the information available to journalists.
The chairman also said the award is part of the lecture and award series organized and given to deserving Nigerians by the chapel, in kaduna state.
“Award of this kinds have been given to other people in the society too, example, some traffic warders, politicians, even members of NUJ who have done very well during their practice”, saying four personalities ‘have so far benefit the award.
The award therefore sincerely thanked God Almighty and the correspondent chapel of NUj for bestowing on him with the presigeous award, on behalf of his family and his management team. End.
