S/Kaduna crisis: SOKIPEP lauds el-Rufai, Operation Safe Haven over arrest of suspects

*Says governor uncommon leadership has restored peace in the area

*Tells him to ignore detractors, continue on implementing blueprint for area.

The Southern Kaduna Peace Practitioners’ Network (SOKIPEP),a peace advocacy group in the area, has thanked the governor of Kaduna State,Nasir el-Rufai, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, OPSH, Major General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, and the entire security agencies for not only restoring peace in the area but also arresting those found in connection with recent attacks and counter attacks.

SOKIPEP also commended the governor over his prompt response to addressing the welfare and needs of the entire people of Southern Kaduna, especially those affected in one way or the other in recent attacks and the reprisal attacks in the area.

The group, in a statement by its National Coordinator,Rev. Dauda Fadia, said it was short of words in commending the governor for his interventions in the plight of its kinsmen as well as his determination to ensure that the Southern Kaduna retains its old glory.

It called on the governor not to look back in his efforts at seeing that their area is well developed to meet current economic reality, tasking him not to deviate from his roadmap in the area due largely to criticisms from selfish persons.

The group said the active collaboration of the governor with the commander of Operation Safe Haven and others security agencies resulted in the normalcy in Southern Kaduna today, tasking him to keep the pace.

“We wish to passionately commend the Commander,Operation Safe Haven, Major General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, the sector Commander, Sector 7 and all the officers and men of Operation Safe Haven, the special military task force set up to enforce peace in Plateau, Southern Kaduna and part of Bauchi state for demystifying the once dreaded gunmen who were killing people at will in Southern Kaduna,” it said.

We are indeed grateful to the governor and the OPSH over the arrest of five suspects last week and further arrest of two more suspects today December 3,2020 ,directly connected to the killing of a herder, Isiyiyaka Saidu of Ugwan Pah village and the counter arrack leading to the death of about six natives of Jema’a Local Government Area as a reprisal,”the group added.

According to the group,”These arrests are quite commendable and have ushered in new hope and confidence in the security agencies and the government, and have put the government of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State in a very positive light for matching his words with action.”

“These arrests of the suspects from both sides of the warring factions may have disappointed some troublemakers in our community who have always mischievously accused the government of Kaduna State of bigotry or not doing anything to end the crisis in Southern Kaduna.

“This insinuation, we discovered, is only the handiwork of some desperate people using tribal platform for their selfish agenda which we must all reject with vehemence”, it said, adding:” We commend Operation Safe Haven for the prompt arrest of these suspects once again.”

“Since assumption of office of this leadership, in conjunction with the Kaduna State government, criminals are no longer having a field day in Southern Kaduna. No wonder genuine peace has largely been restored to the five local government councils under the operation,” it said.

” We also wish to praise the commitment, cooperation and tireless efforts of Governor Nasir el-Rufai and his team for the genuine commitment and love he has for the people of kaduna and Southern Kaduna.

” We appeal to him to ignore detractors and continue with his peace and infrastructural blueprint for Southern Kaduna,”SOKIPEP added in the statement.
