Group under the auspices of Concerned APC Youth of Nigeria has revealed that the Governor of Zamfara state Dr. Bello Muhammad Mutawalle cannot defect to the All Progress Congress (APC) as governor due to circumstances surrounding his emergence.

The national coordinator of the group Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu Shinkafi who discloed this during a briefing in Kaduna Tuesday said some people are already pushing for him to defect to APC ahead of 2023 election to get second term victory.
He said Governor Matawalle emerged through the Apex court verdict which nulified APC victory and gave the second political party with highest number of vote counts and therefore cannot defect as Governor until he resigning from his party.
According to hiim the court judgement gave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) based on party platform not on the basis of highest number of lawful vote scored by Matawalle as the PDP candidate.

“We also discussed and know that Governor Matawalle cannot defect to APC unless he resign because what happen is that the Apex declares the vote of APC nul and void and ordered that the second party with highest number of vote be given the Governor and that was PDP, and PDP decided to give io Matawalle. It can decide to give to any other member of the party.
Matawalle does not possessed the lawful votes of his own. So he can only resigned as individuals and defect to APC as an ordinary person. An with that, he can’t contest against candidate of the fomer Goveror Yari.
And if he remain there, believe me APC will remove him from government house on 2023 without doubt. Even senator, he can’t get.
“He either resign and relinquish his position as governor and go empty otherwise he cannot.
Zamfara is an APC state.”, he said. End
