The officials of Kaduna State lndependent Electoral Commission, (KAD-SIECOM) have postponed the conduct of Local Government election earlier scheduled for June 5th, due to lack of adequate sensitive materials for the Council polls.
The materials include batteries for the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), which is still awaiting delivery from the manufacturers in China.
Accordingly, the meeting between representatives of political parties and the officials of the State Electoral body however was deadlock on the preparation for the conduct of the Elections.
The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Sambo, at a press briefing with political parties and other stakeholders yesterday, said that the shipment date of the EVM battery, from China to Abuja, is scheduled for between 1st- 10th July, 2021.
Explaining further, Sambo said charging the batteries with fixing and sorting of other relevant accessories will take 14 days – from 17th July to 2nd August, 2021, respectively.
Sambo stressed that “it will still take two days for the distribution of sensitive election materials before the commission propose a possible election date.”
Reacting to the sudden suspension of the election, PDP Secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu Wusono accused the commission of deliberately postponing the Council elections in favor of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), which he said appeared not ready for the election as earlier scheduled.
Meanwhile, no new date has been fixed for the polls, as the commission was still deliberating with stakeholders over an agreed date for the Elections, at the time of filing this report.
