House of Reps To Probe Sale of Power Stations

Engineer, Magaji Aliyu Da’u, Chairman House committee on power has condemned the sale of about of five power generation stations without the knowledge of National Assembly members.

The law maker who was speaking to journalists in his office at the National Assembly on Thursday, said that the House of Representatives member were only informed about the sale after the station have been sold out.

He added that sale was unconstitutional and very wrong.

*We woke up to the news that the power station had been sold out this is unconstitutional and in violation of the constitution

He went on to explain that the Niger Power Holding Limited act, the power stations are owned by the Federal, State and Local Governments and the National Assembly have oversight functions over it
“How can you sell what belong to the us without informing us?, the Lawmaker queried.

” I can assure that the House of Representatives would in the next five days set up a committee to investigate how, when and why the stations were sold off without any prior notice.

Hon Magaji Aliyu Da’u further alleged that the stations were sold below the actual value.

He further revealed that the House Representatives would invite the Minister of Power still, the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation would be invited for to explain their roles in the illegal sale of the stations.
