Destiny Hands Volleyball Team have dominated the Indoor/Beach Volleyball Championship organised by the Kaduna State Volleyball Association.
They claimed the male and female categories gold in the outdoor category, as well as the silver in the male beach category of the competition, which ended at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Saturday.
Young Eagles settled for the silver, while Dalet Barracks were consoled with the bronze medal in the male outdoor category.
Goningora Spikers picked silver, while Peace Spikers grabbed the bronze in the female outdoor category.
In the beach male category of the competition, Young Eagles soared high to lift gold. Laoms Academy Zaria, picked the bronze.
Speaking with newsmen at the beach courts of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Secretary Kaduna State Volleyball Association, Florence Yori said the competition was organised to scout for talents ahead of the National Youth Games (NYG), billed for October in Ilorin.
“We are doing this ahead of the zonal elimination of the NYG billed for Kebbi in September,” she said
According to her 102 players participated in the three-day competition.
“There were 94 players for the indoor volleyball, while for beach we have 18,” she said.
According to her, they discovered a lot of players which the Kaduna State Volleyball Association will develop and groom.
“With the players we have discovered, If there is an U-12 competition, Kaduna will do well,” she said.
Ahead of the North West Zonal elimination for team sports, she disclosed that the selected players would be invited to open camp.
“We intend to run an open camp because we have accomodation problem, so we made it open camp when they come from their homes, we transport them.back.
“Like the hostel here, if it can be renovated by the state or federal government, it would really help a lot,” she declared.
In an interview with newsmen, Goningora Spikers player, 14-yr old Nwosu Francisca said she dreams playing for Team Kaduna.
“I will be happy to represent Kaduna at the NYG because I will not be 14 years forever,” she said
Also speaking, Matthew Moses also from Goningora Spikers expressed readiness to do Kaduna proud.
“It is an opportunity to represent. I am ready to represent Kaduna,” he said.
