The Vanguard Newspaper correspondent in Kaduna State, Ibrahim Hassan Wuyo, has raised the alarm that his life is in danger following the threats issued to him by Shettima Yerima, leader of the Arewa Consultative Youth Forum.
In a petition written to Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna, Mr. Wuyo said that following the publication of an article in Vanguard Newspaper, Yerima called him late at night and expressed his displeasure that the journalist allowed the article to be published.
Wuyo explained in the petition that,
“After greetings, Shettima Yerima was asking me in a militaristic manner why I wrote a story that emanated from a press statement issued to journalists by a group clamoring for an Igbo Presidency in 2023.”
He claimed to be “insulted” in the report, which was published on the online platform of Vanguard, the medium I represent, and also on other online platforms.
Despite the appeal for understanding that he was only doing his job as a journalist, and that the leader of the Arewa group also had the right to reply via the same medium, Wuyo added that Yerima was further incensed and issued a verbal threat in Hausa language.
The Vanguard correspondent further added that at that point, he was left with no option but to report the issue to security agencies as he no longer felt safe.
Wuyo wrote: “As a law-abiding Nigerian, I have no option but to write this in the form of a petition,” the journalist added
