At least one person was shot dead and several others were kidnapped by bandits in Gbagi villa, a sprawling community neighbouring Kaduna Polytechnic, Sabon Tasha Campus.
The incident occurred at about 10 pm on Monday.
According to an eyewitness, “bandits numbering over 30 stormed the community around 10 pm on Monday evening.”
The bandits then shot the first person they encountered close to his house, then proceeded to his compound and abducted his pregnant wife and two children.
The eyewitness, Mr. Andoma Usman, further explained that
“the hoodlums went about combing houses street by street. The first house they stormed, after the first person they shot, the bandits kidnapped a mother and her two children, and apprehended a young man who was about to step into his house.
Mr. Usman told our correspondent that the hoodlums were in the process of going to the next house when personnel drawn from the Nigerian Army arrived at the scene and engaged them in a heavy gunfight that lasted for over an hour.
” As the bandits were about to leave the other houses, security operatives arrived at the scene and a heavy gunfight ensued between them and the bandits.
“Heavy arms were used during the fight, as we continued to hear loud bangs and explosions. Unable to withstand the fire from the soldiers, the criminals retreated but went along with seven people, including four children, he concluded.
