The Director of Gender Policy Unit at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the President of Catholic Women Association of Nigeria (CWO), Samaru Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, Prof Mrs. Eugenia Chika Akpa has partly blamed the high level of insecurity in Nigeria on parental negligence. She made this known as a discussant at the panel session of the Maiden Agora Conference of All Women took place  at the Pastoral Centre Graceland, Zaria on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022.

Dwelling on the topic, ‘The Nigerian Women, the Instrument of Peace in an Insecure Nation,’ the director maintained that wrong socialization of children or its absence breeds unimaginable consequences including insecurity tasking mothers to use their office to change the narrative for good.

“Peace is far eluding us.” The don decried. “We hardly sleep with our two eyes closed. Insecurity is here because we have failed in our roles of socializing our children to the basic norms of the society – we send ill-prepared and ill-equipped children into the society. In our mothering and nurturing roles, we ought to socialize our children into the norms and values of the society. Our best bet is to remedy the situation.

Reminding women of their innate ability to keep pushing even in the face of daunting challenges, Prof Akpa sent the participants forth into the society to contribute their quota towards making the nation a peaceful place for all by ensuring that no child is left unguided.

On her part, the moderator at the session, Dr Bernadine Akpu encouraged them to facilitate their roles by teaching their children early enough. She also boosted their confidence in their ability to turn things around and to fix the society.
