Newly appointed Patron of Samaru Deanery Choir of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria and a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Mr. Thomas Otegwu has commended organizers of the body’s Maiden Easter Cantata which took place in St Enda’s Catholic Church Zaria on Easter Monday, 18th April, 2022.
Mr. Otegwu was appointed as a patron of the deanery choir by the new chaplain, Rev Fr. Benedict Nkom at the event after sharing his experiences of many years as a chorister, thereby pointing them to the paths to improvement and growth.
“I appreciate the fact that the deanery choir has organized this concert.” He voiced. “I don’t think we did this much during our time but those days, when Zaria was a deanery under Kaduna Archdiocese, we were ahead of Kaduna in music even in competitions. I doubt if we can compare Zaria with Kaduna now. They have music schools in Kaduna. So, I am asking people like Prof Steve Ojih and myself – and those who have graduated from choir and now have music schools to help us with their experiences.”

“When the centre is very strong, the unit will also be strong. We also need a strong diocesan choir but you need to be strong because it takes a lot. So, I encourage you to make the deanery and the diocesan choirs strong so that individual parish choirs can be strong. We are not supposed to be at the starting point. We are supposed to be growing. Let us try to be better than we are today so that we can meet up with Kaduna or even get better than them. Let this kind of program continue.”
