At least 12 persons have been reportedly killed in Igama Edumoga in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State on June 12, the Democracy Day.
Information obtained from the locals revealed that the victims, mostly youth’, were brutally killed by militias herdsmen that invaded the village on Sunday morning.
According to the source who spoke in confidence, the heavily armed herdsmen militias, numbering over 200, targeted church worshippers when they arrived the area around 6am.
The source however, stated that the militias later opened fire on youth in their attempt to secure the church worshippers from the attack and gunned down 12 instantly.
When contacted, a Benue State Government official who spoke from Deputy Governor’s office, confirmed the story, but said they were yet to receive full gist of the attacks as at the time of contact.
Insider sources said the bandits also attacked some other villages on their way back after killing the 12 and have sent notice to Efeche Village of planned attack on them.
Findings revealed that the militias had earlier sacked the Igama villagers after several attacks on them in the past, but some youth returned recently to meet their waterloo.
