The Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP & IGP) of Karnataka M.A. Saleem has issued a circular directing all police officers and staff working in offices across the State to strictly adhere to office timings, and maintain punctual attendance.
In a circular issued on June 17, 2026, M.A. Saleem emphasised that government offices are the primary interface between the State and citizens, and that their efficient functioning is essential for ensuring good governance, transparency, accountability and public trust.
The circular noted that punctual attendance and timely commencement of official work are critical for efficient public service delivery and smooth administrative functioning. It stated that delays in the commencement of office work adversely affects service delivery, administrative efficiency, and disposal of official matters.

Start work at 10 a.m.
Referring to directions issued by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, the circular stated that all government offices are required to commence functioning at 10 a.m.
Unit officers have been directed to verify the attendance of personnel through the Kartavya (KAAMS) app every day at 10 a.m. They have also been instructed to review attendance reports on the Duty Dashboard using their personal login credentials, and take necessary action against employees who fail to mark their attendance.
The circular further directs supervisory officers to closely monitor punctuality and attendance in their respective units while setting an example by adhering to the prescribed office timings.
The police chief warned that habitual late attendance and non-compliance with office timings would be viewed seriously, and dealt with under the applicable rules and regulations.
The directive has been issued to strengthen discipline within the department, improve administrative efficiency, and ensure effective public service delivery.
