Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth concludes the comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Sooryavanshi, 15, is on the brink of making his Team India debut as the selection committee named the emerging opener in the T20I squads for the upcoming series.
Vaibhav will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record if he makes his India debut at the age of only 15. The young batter’s extraordinary batting skills at such a young age often attract comparisons with the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Srikkanth joins the Sachin Tendulkar vs Vaibhav Sooryavanshi debate
Krishnamachari Srikkanth urges to stop the Sachin vs Vaibhav debate as both of the batters are from different eras. The former skipper concludes the discussion by calling Sachin the God of Cricket and Vaibhav the Son of God.
“Let’s not compare Sachin and Sooryavanshi. Let’s keep it at that. Sachin is the God of cricket, and this boy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, I believe, is the son of God. Let’s put it that way. I don’t believe in comparing eras, so let’s not compare Sachin with anybody. Sachin is Sachin. Nobody can come near him. There is no use comparing Sachin and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi,” Srikakanth told the news agency PTI.
The former captain explains why Sooravanshi is special
Srikkanth observes that what Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did in the IPL and for the Under-19 format is astronomical. The former batter also points out the decision-making of the Rajasthan Royals batter, who uses his wrist, bat speed, and swing to hammer the bowlers. For Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the whole process is because of a well-synchronized mindset and batting skills.
“Now, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the IPL and T20 cricket has been amazing. He has been outstanding in Under-19 cricket as well. The shot-making ability of Sooryavanshi is astonishing. The way he plays those shots, his wrist speed, bat speed, and bat swing are remarkable. I also think he has a very stable mind,” he added.
He mentioned Sooryavanshi’s knock against the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 qualifiers, where he showed composure and temperament to play a 96-run knock. The southpaw, who loves to attack the bowlers from the beginning of the innings, waited patiently for his turn before bringing out some of his most extraordinary shots.
“If you look at that IPL innings against the Gujarat Titans, when his team was under pressure, he stayed there and produced a terrific knock. What I like most about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is that he has the appetite to score runs and the appetite to dominate. At the same time, he can stay at the crease and build an innings,” the former cricketer continued.
‘That boy has a tremendous future’
The 66-year-old predicts a very bright future for Sooryavanshi. So, he thinks it is unnecessary to compare the teenager with Sachin Tendulkar or any other cricketer.
“I think that boy has a tremendous future. So let’s not compare him with Sachin or anybody else. Let him be himself. Let him grow naturally and play the way he wants to play. We should simply encourage him,” Krishnamachari Srikkanth concluded the debate by saying this.
