Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming one-off Test match against Bangladesh, with Richard Ngarava appointed as captain. This is the first time the left-arm seamer would be leading the Chevrons in the longest format of the game.
The solitary Test match is scheduled to be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare from June 28 to July 2. Zimbabwe will be returning to Test cricket following their resounding victory over Afghanistan at the same venue in October last year by an innings and 73 runs.
Ngarava was one of the best performers in that encounter, bagging a five-wicket haul as Zimbabwe recorded one of their most comprehensive Test victories in recent years.
The squad picked for the game against Bangladesh features five names who were not a part of the Afghanistan Test. Innocent Kaia, Graeme Cremer, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere and Newman Nyamhuri have all been recalled after impressive performances in domestic and representative cricket.
Zimbabwe will, however, be missing the services of talismanic all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who has been granted permission to fulfil his commitment with Worcestershire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast campaign in England.
The two sides last met in a two-match series in Bangladesh in April and May last year, with the contest ending one-all. The overall head-to-head record between the two sides in the red-ball format stands at 9-8 in favour of Bangladesh. Three matches have ended in a draw.
Bangladesh’s last assignment in Test cricket was against Pakistan. The Bangla Tigers scripted history as they defeated Shan Masood and Co. 2-0, with both matches being played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet in May.
Zimbabwe squad for Test Against Bangladesh: Richard Ngarava (Captain), Brian Bennett, Tanaka Chivanga, Graeme Cremer, Ben Curran, Craig Ervine, Brad Evans, Innocent Kaia, Roy Kaia, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri, Brendan Taylor, Tafadzwa Tsiga.
