Toss India chose to bowl vs Ireland
Nine hundred and thirty six days since he last played a game in the shortest format, Shreyas Iyer pulled on the India blues and this time it came with the armband. The new captain of the back-to-back T20 world champions won the toss in Belfast and chose to bowl against Ireland. Iyer made a mention of the three-peat being the ultimate aim for India and backed the crew that won the title in February to continue doing the job. It meant 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will have to wait for his international debut.
Ireland were happy to hand out first caps to fast bowlers Matt Hollard and Jai Moondra. They had a new captain as well and Lorcan Tucker will have to put his best foot forward after the toss went against him, preventing him from doing what he wanted – chasing a total. Ireland are playing India for the ninth time in T20Is. They are yet to secure a victory.
