When asked about choosing unconventional paths as an actor, Rajeev quipped, “I don’t want to say I broke norms. But I didn’t follow the path that was being shown to me by most. There have been many occasions. When I was doing a show called Sacch Ka Saamna – I was hosting it. I just come fresh from releasing my first movie Aamir. The movie had received immense love. It was liked and loved. Many people thought I was get into films full-fledged. They did not want me to do television. I told them that I would only do what I feel is right. I liked the show (Sacch Ka Saamna) and wanted to be a part of it.”
But Kahiin To Hoga had put him on the map. However, Rajeev said goodbye to the show when it was at its peak. “Then I did Shaitan. I have always listened to my inner voice. I quit my first show when the character was at its peak. I didn’t want money. I wanted to quit, say goodbye to the stardom and start afresh,” he said.

But why did he do it? Rajeev said, he did not want to become a “one-show wonder.” He noted, “It was very easy to walk away because I had made up my mind. But it was difficult because the world kept telling me something else. I had to constantly fight that battle. I still stuck with my inner voice and said yes to more things. I knew I was capable. I wasn’t a one-show wonder, that most of them used to say. They would say my life is set. They would say I have made enough money and enough number of houses. But I wanted to start from scratch. I did a show called Left Right Left after that. I believed in myself and stuck with it.”
