Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was not part of India’s playing for the fifth and final T20I of the series against England. Having started his international career with a string of low scores, Sooryavanshi was dropped from the game at the Rose Bowl and was seen in tears after the end of the match on Saturday, July 11. A video of the 15-year-old not able to control his emotions has now gone viral, as England swept India 4-0.
Sooryavanshi made his T20I debut during the second match of the recent series in Manchester and departed after just 14. He followed it up with a 13-run outing in Nottingham, further making 15 in his third-ever T20I outing in Bristol. As a result, he was dropped, with experienced campaigner Sanju Samson making a return to the side.
At the end of the fifth T20I, as players shook hands and went back to the dressing room, Sooryavanshi was spotted in his chair in the dugout, crying restlessly. Claims on the internet suggest that the teenage sensation was in tears as he was dropped from the side, but a few have also said that he was heartbroken after the shambolic loss for the Indian team.

Speaking on the omission of Sooryavanshi, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer addressed the decision, saying that Samson was brought back into the mix since the team wanted to have a right-handed batter alongside Abhishek Sharma, as there are way too many left-handed batters in India’s top seven. Samson, who has been a match winner for India in the past, was given a go once again, Iyer explained.
“We needed to try the best combination that would be perfect on these conditions. And we also wanted a right-hander to go on with Abhishek. So, that was one of the major reasons. And if you see, I was the only one out of all the left-handers who was a right-hander. As I mentioned earlier, we wanted to try a different combination which would be suitable for this particular game. And he’s [Samson] a gun batsman. He has won so many series for us in the past,” Iyer said at the post-match press conference.
