India’s tour of Zimbabwe got off to a perfect start as tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav produced a sensational opening delivery to dismiss Brian Bennett for a golden duck in the first T20I at Harare. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, India needed just one ball to make an impact, with Mayank unleashing a 149 kmph delivery that left the Zimbabwe opener with no answer and handed the visitors early control of the contest.

Leading India’s pace attack, Mayank wasted no time in showcasing the raw speed that has made him one of the country’s most exciting fast bowlers. Charging in with the new ball, he delivered a back-of-a-length ball just outside off stump at 149 kmph. The delivery straightened after pitching, forcing Bennett onto the back foot. Looking to defend, the Zimbabwe batter was caught rooted to the crease and could only manage a faint outside edge through to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.
Although the on-field umpire turned down India’s appeal, Kishan was convinced he had heard a nick and immediately urged captain Shreyas Iyer to take the review. Iyer backed his wicketkeeper’s instincts, and the Decision Review System confirmed the edge on UltraEdge, overturning the original decision. The successful review sparked jubilant celebrations among the Indian players as Bennett had to walk back without scoring, giving Mayank a wicket with the very first ball of the innings.

Following disappointing T20I series defeats against both Ireland and England, India have entered the Zimbabwe tour under considerable pressure to deliver a strong response. The back-to-back losses had raised questions over the team’s consistency, middle-order stability and execution in crucial moments, especially under new captain Iyer. The three-match series against Zimbabwe therefore presents an ideal opportunity for India to regain momentum, rebuild confidence and silence critics. With several young players eager to cement their places in the squad ahead of a busy international calendar, expectations are high for the Men in Blue to produce a dominant performance and get their campaign back on track.
