BWSSB says there is enough water in the reservoirs of the Cauvery basin to meet Bengaluru’s drinking water needs.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairperson Manjula N. said on Wednesday that there was no shortage of drinking water in Bengaluru as of now.
“There is enough water in the reservoirs of the Cauvery basin to meet Bengaluru’s drinking water needs. On average, the city requires 2 tmcft to 2.3 tmcft of water every month, and it is being supplied regularly. Anticipating a crisis ahead, we have taken several measures and are prepared to face it,” she said.
She was speaking after a meeting with the Karnataka State Safai Karamchari Commission and said the probe into the recent deaths at the Bellandur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was still under way.
“All safety precautions are being taken at BWSSB’s STPs and have been further strengthened following the recent incident,” she said.
Commission Chairman P. Raghu said the commission held a dialogue with STP workers, gangmen, and other safai karamcharis employed by the BWSSB and stressed that their safety and welfare remained a top priority. He said the commission had also discussed expanding the Annapoorna Scheme, which provides breakfast to sanitation workers, to other employees such as drivers.
