Bhuvneshwar Kumar shares motivation behind His career

Ravichandran Ashwin made a case for reinstating the 36-year-old Bhuvneshwar Kumar into India’s 50-over plans in late July 2026. Ashwin threw his weight behind the veteran swing bowler for a surprise recall ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Bhuvneshwar responded to the reinstatement proposal on Sunday, August 2, 2026. The bowler made clear that international recognition remains secondary to his current pursuits in domestic and league cricket.

“I’m playing the IPL and domestic cricket because I love the game. When you’re young and playing for India, you say you love the game. But honestly, things like ‘control the controllable’, ‘don’t overthink’, or ‘playing for the passion of the game’ — I can actually feel those things now.“I’ve already played for India. That’s not something I have to achieve now.” Bhuvneshwar said on RCB podcast.

“If I get another opportunity, that’s great, but I’ve been there. Everything I’m doing now is because of my love for the game. I know I have to stay disciplined,” he added.

Bhuvneshwar’s recent form and focus

Bhuvneshwar’s last appearance for India across all formats came in November 2022. Since then, he has focused on domestic and franchise cricket, most recently delivering a standout IPL 2026 campaign. In the tournament, he took 28 wickets in 16 games at an average of 17.89 and an economy rate of 7.95, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker. He was one of the biggest reasons behind RCB’s second title-winning campaign in the competition.

“I play domestic cricket, I play the UP T20 League. I make sure I play enough cricket to stay in touch, while also giving myself enough breaks to recover and stay refreshed.“I am absolutely at peace, and I give credit to my family. At home, we never talk about cricket. We never talk about whether I’ll get back into the Indian team, why I wasn’t selected, or what went wrong.“That played a big role, and there is no regret… I understand that transitions are a part of sport. I understand that generations change.” said Bhuvneshwar.

“I’m not the first player to experience this, and I certainly won’t be the last. That is part of the game. Family plays a big role. I am happy being where I am,” he added.
