Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh spotted working together at Delhi Capitals trials ahead of IPL 2027

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and World Cup-winning all-rounder Yuvraj Singh were actively involved in the Delhi Capitals (DC) trials at the Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Their presence together has intensified speculation over major coaching changes ahead of the IPL 2027 season.

DC might undergo an overhaul after missing the playoffs for two straight seasons and finishing sixth in IPL 2026. With JSW Sports taking back operational control from GMR Group under the franchise’s ownership rotation, the management is expected to reshape the coaching staff ahead of the new season.

Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh Spotted at DC Trials

Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh played active roles during the Delhi Capitals selection trials at the Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Yuvraj stood behind the umpire, closely watching and guiding young batters, while Ganguly oversaw the proceedings alongside former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra.

Ganguly, who became JSW’s Director of Cricket in 2024, is expected to take charge as Delhi Capitals’ head coach or director of cricket. He previously served as the franchise’s mentor in IPL 2019 before becoming BCCI president.

According to reports, Yuvraj could become Delhi Capitals’ batting coach. If appointed, it would be his first official coaching role in the IPL and would reunite him with Ganguly in the franchise’s leadership group.

Yuvraj Singh’s Mentorship Could Benefit Delhi Capitals

Yuvraj has never held an official IPL coaching position. He has worked closely with several leading Indian cricketers. Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Prabhsimran Singh, Abdul Samad, and Sanju Samson have all credited him for helping improve their game.

Former Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant trained with him in Mumbai before IPL 2026. Reports also claimed Pant had previously suggested Yuvraj’s name for a coaching role before his brief stint with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Apart from mentoring players, Yuvraj has built a strong network through his Punjab-based training camps and his sports talent agency, Prolithic. His experience in identifying and developing young talent could prove valuable for Delhi Capitals in building their squad for the future.

Delhi Capitals Eye Fresh Start Under JSW

Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, finishing sixth in IPL 2026. With JSW Sports taking over franchise operations from GMR Group under the co-ownership rotation, a new coaching setup is expected for the next cycle.

The Delhi-based franchise is unlikely to continue current support staff of Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, Munaf Patel, and Ian Bell. Delhi Capitals remain one of the few original IPL franchises yet to win the title, with their runner-up finish in 2020.

The franchise hopes to build a stronger cricket culture and end its long wait for an IPL trophy under Ganguly and Yuvraj. While the franchise is yet to make an official announcement, their involvement in the Bengaluru trials has grabbed the attention ahead of the mini auction.

15 players will advance to the second round of trials, scheduled to be held in Delhi from September 10. It will be interesting to see how the Delhi Capitals finalize their squad and fill the remaining gaps.
