The Keralam government has sanctioned ₹45.68 crore for infrastructure and human resource development of government colleges in the State.
The order sanctioning the funds for development of physical infrastructure, human resource, and IT facilities; their maintenance; improvement of academic excellence; and enhancement of learning levels has been issued, a statement quoting Minister for Higher Education Roji M. John said here on Tuesday.
The funds will be utilised for development activities in government colleges. These include new buildings, academic blocks, administrative centres, IT facilities, and other basic infrastructure development.
An amount of ₹13.48 crore will be used for a new administrative facility for Kesari Government Arts and Science College, Paravur, Ernakulam; ₹5.6 crore for hostel and mess facilities at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam; ₹4.81 crore for constructing a library and research block of Government College, Karyavattom; and ₹2.42 crore for infrastructure development of Government Brennen College of Teacher Education, Thalassary.
Funds to the tune of ₹1.29 crore have been sanctioned for constructing an academic block and compound wall of Government Arts and Science College, Karunagapally; ₹1.34 crore for a new arts block for Government College, Madappally, Vadakara; ₹1.98 crore for a compound wall for Government College, Munnar; ₹1.27 crore for KKTM Government College, Kodungallur; ₹99.68 lakh for EKNM Government, Elerithattu, Kasasaragod; and ₹98.35 lakh for Government Arts and Science College, Tholanur, Palakkad.
The Minister said the funds were intended to increase the draw of government colleges and make them student-friendly institutions of higher education. These would ensure a good learning environment for students, increase research-innovation possibilities, and raise teaching-learning levels, he said.
Mr. John said the Director of Collegiate Education had been directed to avoid delays in project implementation and expedite further procedures so that construction work could begin.
Steps to strengthen the higher education sector through development of government colleges would continue, the Minister added.
