Young Indian star Vaibhav Suryavanshi shared an emotional post for Dhruv Jurel after the wicketkeeper-batter’s memorable century and ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ celebration against Sri Lanka.
India’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka has ended, with the visitors winning it 1-0. The second Test in Colombo finished in a draw after Sri Lanka produced a brilliant fightback on the final day.
India looked set for a 2-0 series victory at one stage, but Sonal Dinusha and the Sri Lankan lower order denied them.
For India, however, there were several positives from the series.
One of the biggest was Dhruv Jurel.
Dhruv Jurel Answers Questions With the Bat
Jurel had been under pressure coming into the Sri Lanka series.
He had received backing from the Indian team management, but runs had not been coming from his bat in recent matches, raising questions about his place in the playing XI.
The wicketkeeper-batter responded when the team needed him.
His biggest statement came in the second Test in Colombo. Jurel scored an unbeaten 115 as India declared their first innings at 503/9.
Devdutt Padikkal also scored 117, while Rishabh Pant contributed 63.
It was Jurel’s second Test century and his first hundred away from home.
More than the runs, though, it was what Jurel did after reaching three figures that caught everyone’s attention.

After reaching his century, Jurel removed his helmet, raised his bat and then pulled up his sleeve to show the words ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ on his left bicep.
There was a deeply personal story behind the celebration.
Jurel later explained that his grandfather was a farmer, while his father served in the Indian Army.
For him, the celebration was about remembering his family and the roots he comes from.
Jurel’s father, Nem Singh Jurel, is a former Indian Army havaldar and a Kargil War veteran.
That made the celebration much more than just another way of marking a Test hundred.
At a time when different styles of celebrations regularly go viral on social media, Jurel chose one of the biggest moments of his career to honour his soldier father and farmer grandfather.
It was simple, personal and emotional.

Jurel’s celebration also caught the attention of Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
The young Indian batter shared Jurel’s ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ celebration on his Instagram story, adding a heart and folded-hands emoji.
It was a simple post, but the message behind it was clear.
Suryavanshi showed his respect for Jurel and the emotions attached to his celebration.
For a young cricketer like Suryavanshi, seeing an Indian player celebrate one of his biggest achievements by remembering his family and roots also carries a special meaning.

Why Jurel’s Celebration Was Special
The phrase ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ has a special place in India.
For Jurel, however, the words carried a direct connection to his own family.
His father represented the country as a soldier, while his grandfather worked as a farmer.
So when Jurel reached three figures in Colombo and displayed those words, he was bringing both parts of his family story together.
And he chose the perfect stage to do it — immediately after scoring a Test century for India.
For any batter, an overseas Test hundred is special.
For Jurel, this one had an even deeper meaning.
India Win Series but Miss Important WTC Points
India eventually won the two-match Test series 1-0, but they would have wanted more from the second Test.
The visitors declared at 503/9 and then bowled Sri Lanka out for 290 before enforcing the follow-on.
At that point, India appeared to be moving towards another victory.
Sri Lanka, however, showed tremendous resistance in their second innings.
Sonal Dinusha, who had already scored 103 in the first innings, produced another brilliant performance and remained unbeaten on 133 as Sri Lanka reached 429/9 and saved the Test.
The draw also cost India important World Test Championship points.
India finished the Sri Lanka series fifth in the WTC standings with a points percentage of 51.52.
Still, they returned home with a 1-0 series victory after winning the opening Test in Galle by 165 runs.
