Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore said on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) that Rahul Gandhi is the prime ministerial candidate and emphasised that Chief Minister Vijay should continue in his role as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Regarding the polls projecting CM Vijay as one of the popular choices for Prime Minister, Mr. Tagore said, “Rahul Gandhi is the Prime Ministerial candidate. We are clear that Chief Minister Vijay should continue as the Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu, as he is providing a corruption-free governance, and that his government should be strong. Some media houses are conspiring. They are trying to spoil the relationship [between TVK and Congress].”
He also said that the State unit would urge for Puli Thevan’s statue to be erected in the Parliament of India.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tagore said that while the Parliament is not functioning fairly, Speaker of the Assembly JCD Prabhakar is overseeing the proceedings in a just manner, balancing the voices of the ruling party and the Opposition.
