South Africa has suffered two injury setbacks ahead of their upcoming ODI series in Namibia, with Lhuan-dré Pretorius and Andile Simelane both ruled out. Pretorius has been sidelined by a right adductor muscle injury, while Simelane is unavailable due to a left abdominal muscle strain. The updated squad was confirmed on September 7, 2026.
Corbin Bosch and Matthew Breetzke have been named as their respective replacements in the revised Proteas group. The series, which is the first-ever 50-over ODI contest between South Africa and Namibia, opens on September 9, 2026, at Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. The second and third matches follow on September 11 and September 13, 2026. Bjorn Fortuin leads the side throughout the tour.

How did Simelane come to be part of the Namibia tour squad?
Simelane was not part of the original group selected for the Namibia tour. He was added to the Proteas squad for the T20I tri-series leg of the tour as a replacement for Lutho Sipamla, who had been ruled out with a left hamstring injury. Simelane’s inclusion at that stage allowed him to contribute to the tour before the ODI matches began.
However, Simelane has now sustained a left abdominal muscle strain, ending his involvement in the tour entirely. His exit means South Africa have had to make a further change to their squad before a single ODI has been played. Sipamla’s availability for the ODI series has not been confirmed in the available evidence.
Who was originally selected in the Proteas squad for the Namibia tour?
Cricket South Africa announced the original 15-member squad for the Namibia tour on August 11, 2026, with Fortuin named as captain. That group comprised Eathan Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann, Rubin Hermann, Duan Jansen, Kwena Maphaka, Nqobani Mokoena, Nqaba Peter, Pretorius, Sipamla, Jason Smith and Prenelan Subrayen alongside the captain.
With Pretorius ruled out through injury and Simelane also unavailable, the ODI squad has been reshaped ahead of what is a landmark series for both nations. The addition of Corbin Bosch and Breetzke brings the group back to full strength as South Africa prepare to make history in Windhoek.
