AFG vs IND, T20I Series: Arun Jaitley Stadium T20 Stats and Records

The Afghanistan vs India T20I series is set to begin at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, with all three matches scheduled at the venue between September 13 and 17, 2026. The series will be Afghanistan’s designated home series, although the fixtures are being staged in India.

With the opening game approaching, the Arun Jaitley Stadium’s T20 record makes for interesting reading. The venue has witnessed several high-scoring contests, but it has also produced matches where chasing sides have enjoyed considerable success.

Arun Jaitley Stadium T20I Records and Records

India have enjoyed a mixed record in T20Is at the Delhi venue. Till now, India have played five T20Is at the ground, winning three and losing two.

The venue’s overall T20 numbers also point towards an advantage for teams batting second.

Here are the overall stats and records:

  • Total matches: 20
  • Won batting first: 6
  • Won batting second: 14
  • Average 1st innings score: 149
  • Average 2nd innings score: 136
  • Highest total: 221/9 (20 Overs) by India vs Bangladesh
  • Lowest total: 116/10 (18.2 Overs) by Nambia vs India
  • Highest successful chased: 212/3 (19.1 Overs) by South Africa vs India
  • Lowest score defended: 96/7 (20 Overs) by India vs Pakistan

India hold highest T20I team total

India’s 221/9 against Bangladesh remains the highest T20I total recorded at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The score came in October 2024 and remains the benchmark for teams batting at the venue.

The ground has also witnessed one of the most notable successful run chases in its T20 history. South Africa chased down 212/3 against India after India had posted 211/4 in June 2022. South Africa reached the target with five balls remaining.

That result underlines why Afghanistan and India may be reluctant to consider a big first-innings total completely safe at this venue.

Lowest T20I total at Arun Jaitley Stadium

The lowest recorded T20I total at the stadium is 116 all out, scored by Namibia against India during the 2026 T20 World Cup. India subsequently won the contest by 93 runs.

The contrasting records show that Delhi can produce very different contests depending on pitch conditions, batting execution and the effectiveness of the bowling attack.

Individual T20I records in Delhi

The Arun Jaitley Stadium has also witnessed several notable individual performances in T20 internationals.

A record cited for the venue lists 80 runs as the highest individual T20I score, while 5/19 is the best bowling performance recorded at the ground.

Before the 2026 T20 World Cup, available venue records also listed Jason Roy as the leading run-scorer at the ground with 125 runs and Chris Jordan as the leading wicket-taker with six wickets.
