More than 3,000 people, including 113 minors, were caught by Hyderabad SHE Teams for allegedly misbehaving with and sexually harassing women in public places during September, police said on Thursday (October 1, 2026).
Of the 3,068 persons caught, 2,955 were adults. The enforcement was stepped up during the festive period, particularly at temples, procession routes, bus stops, metro stations, markets and other crowded locations across the city.
The offences
SHE Teams used plain-clothes personnel and video surveillance at crowded locations, transport hubs and entry and exit points to identify instances of harassment. The police said the action covered offences including stalking, passing obscene comments, unwanted physical contact and other forms of harassment in public places.
A total of 106 petty cases were booked during the month. Five resulted in imprisonment of up to seven days along with a fine of ₹1,050, while 40 persons were fined ₹1,050 and ordered to perform social service for up to five days. Another 61 were fined ₹1,050 each.
The police said 961 persons were counselled, warned and let off after preventive action, while 2,001 cases are pending disposal.
Be cautious of fake profiles and oversharing information
The Women and Child Safety Wing also cautioned people against fake online profiles and oversharing personal information on social media. Users were advised to use strong and unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication wherever possible.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women and Child Safety Wing, Lavanya NJP urged women facing stalking, threats, abuse or other forms of harassment to report them without delay, saying early complaints could help prevent repeat offences.
