India vs Pakistan: Team India Favourites to Win Gold

India and Pakistan are all set for a blockbuster finish to the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026. The two arch-rivals will face each other in the gold medal match on October 3 in Nisshin, Japan.

An India-Pakistan final is always special, but this one has something even bigger at stake — an Asian Games gold medal.

And looking at the strength of the two sides, recent results and India’s current squad, Team India will walk into the final as the big favourites.

India have explosive batters, proven international stars, a world-class bowling attack and enormous depth. More importantly, they have repeatedly dominated Pakistan in recent T20I meetings.

Pakistan will need something extraordinary to stop this Indian team.

There is, however, one challenge India cannot afford to ignore.

India vs Pakistan: Recent Numbers Show India’s Dominance

The rivalry between India and Pakistan remains one of the biggest in world cricket, but recent T20I results have been overwhelmingly in India’s favour.

The two teams have played 17 T20 internationals against each other. India have won 14 of them, while Pakistan have managed only three victories.

India have also won their last six T20I meetings against Pakistan.

Those numbers tell their own story.

India are not only ahead on paper. They have repeatedly delivered when these two teams have met in recent years.

Now Shreyas Iyer and his men have an opportunity to extend that dominance on one of the biggest stages and return home with another Asian Games gold medal.

Team India Have Arrived in the Final in Style

India’s quarter-final against Afghanistan was washed out, with India progressing because of their higher seeding.

But when India finally got an opportunity to take the field in the semi-final against Sri Lanka, they made a huge statement.

India scored 169/7 despite batting on a surface where stroke-making was not always easy.

Ishan Kishan played the innings India desperately needed.

The left-hander smashed an unbeaten 80 from only 46 deliveries, including four fours and five sixes.

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again showed his fearless approach, scoring 38 from just 21 balls.

Then came the Indian bowling attack.

Sri Lanka were blown away for just 45.

Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the opening over. Axar Patel then joined the party as India reduced Sri Lanka to 12/5.

There was simply no way back.

A 124-run victory in a semi-final was not merely qualification for the gold medal match. It was a reminder of how dangerous this Indian team can be when its batting and bowling click together.

India’s Batting Line-up Is Packed With Match-Winners

This is perhaps India’s biggest strength going into the final.

There is power almost everywhere.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can attack from the beginning. Abhishek Sharma is one of the most destructive T20 batters when he gets going.

Then India have Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma.

Shivam Dube provides another powerful option and gives India even greater depth in the middle and lower-middle order.

That is a frightening amount of batting power for any opposition to deal with.

If one batter fails, India have another match-winner waiting behind him.

Ishan’s semi-final knock is the perfect example. India had lost wickets, the pitch was not straightforward and Sri Lanka had an opportunity to put the team under pressure.

Ishan responded with an unbeaten 80.

That is exactly what makes this Indian batting unit so difficult to stop.

There are simply too many players capable of taking responsibility and changing a match.

And Then Comes India’s Bowling Attack

If India’s batting looks powerful, the bowling attack makes this side even more formidable.

It starts with Jasprit Bumrah.

Sri Lanka experienced his quality immediately in the semi-final when Bumrah removed two batters in the opening over.

India also have an excellent collection of spin options. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi give Shreyas Iyer different weapons for the middle overs, while Abhishek Sharma can also contribute with the ball when required.

That gives the Indian captain plenty of options for almost every situation.

Need wickets with the new ball? India have Bumrah.

Need control and wickets through the middle overs? India can attack with multiple quality spinners.

Need someone to handle the pressure overs? Bumrah remains one of the best options India could possibly have.

It makes India’s bowling attack extremely difficult to plan against and gives the team another major advantage heading into the gold medal clash.

But India Must Be Careful of One Pakistan Threat

Despite India’s obvious advantages, there is one area where they need to remain alert.

Pakistan’s spin combination of Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan Moqim could make things difficult if the surface continues to assist spin.

Both have enough variation to challenge attacking batters, and the conditions in Nisshin have made spin an important part of the contest.

Together, Abrar and Sufyan can potentially bowl eight overs.

Those eight overs could be Pakistan’s biggest opportunity to slow India down.

But India have the batting quality to counter them.

Instead of allowing the two spinners to settle into their rhythm, India’s batters can rotate the strike, use the crease and punish anything loose.

With players such as Abhishek, Sanju, Ishan, Shreyas, Tilak and Dube in the batting order, India have several different options to take on spin.

If India handle Abrar and Sufyan successfully, Pakistan could find it extremely difficult to stop this batting line-up.

India Have Everything Needed to Win Another Asian Games Gold

India are the defending Asian Games men’s cricket champions.

They won gold at Hangzhou and now stand just one victory away from defending that crown in Japan.

This Indian team has almost everything a captain could ask for.

Explosive openers.

A powerful middle order.

Serious batting depth.

Quality spin.

World-class fast bowling.

And players who have already performed in major international matches.

India still need to respect the conditions and win the crucial moments because no T20 final is decided before the first ball is bowled.

But if Team India play anywhere close to their potential, they have all the weapons required to produce another commanding performance.

The equation for India is simple.

Handle Abrar Ahmed and Sufyan Moqim intelligently. Don’t allow Pakistan’s spinners to dictate the middle overs. Then let India’s batting depth and powerful bowling attack take control.

Team India are standing just one victory away from gold.

One more big performance.

One more victory.

And another Asian Games gold medal could belong to India.
