PCB Demands Apology from Indian Players as Pakistan Champions Pull Out of WCL 2026

The Pakistan Cricket Board has taken a firm stand that has brought an abrupt halt to the Pakistan Champions’ campaign in the tournament. In an unexpected series of events, the board refused to grant No Objection Certificates to its players, ultimately leading to the team’s complete withdrawal from the event.

The controversy stems from a strict condition set forward by the PCB. According to reports, the Pakistan board insisted that Indian players issue a formal apology to the Pakistan squad before any Pakistani cricketer could take the field in the competition. When tournament organisers declined to entertain this condition, the standoff reached a breaking point.

Pakistan Champions Withdraw from World Championship of Legends 2026

Pakistan Champions have now officially pulled out of the ongoing season. The absence of official board clearance made it impossible for the squad to take part, leaving the tournament without one of its most high-profile teams. The squad, captained by Shahid Afridi, was expected to be a major draw for cricket followers around the world.

Several Pakistani players had already arrived in the United Arab Emirates to prepare for the tournament. However, without the mandatory clearance from their home cricket board, they were left stranded on the sidelines. The team management held talks in an effort to reach an understanding, but the PCB maintained its hardline stance, forcing the side to withdraw completely from the competition.

The Roots of the Apology Demand

The tension behind this sudden exit goes back to the previous edition of the tournament. During the 2025 season, the India Champions side boycotted their scheduled fixtures against Pakistan. High political friction between the two nations led Indian players to refuse to take the field, which resulted in a forfeited group-stage encounter and a walkover in the semi-finals.

That refusal left lingering frustration within the Pakistan cricket setup. The PCB believed the tournament management handled that situation with double standards by allowing Indian players to forfeit matches without facing disciplinary measures. Heading into the new season, the Pakistan board sought assurances and demanded an apology from the Indian camp for their previous refusal to play. When the tournament committee refused to impose such demands on the Indian players, the PCB decided to withhold player clearance entirely.

Matches Cancelled as Impasse Continues

The fallout from this dispute has already hit the tournament schedule hard. Pakistan Champions were originally slated to open their tournament campaign against Bangladesh Champions, but that match had to be called off as the clearance issue remained unresolved.

Shortly after the opening postponement, Pakistan’s second fixture against Australia Champions was also cancelled. With Pakistan officially withdrawing from the event, the highly anticipated blockbuster clash against India Champions has been scrapped as well. For cricket supporters worldwide, the standoff means another missed opportunity to see classic cross-border rivalries unfold on the cricket pitch.
