Young and Noteworthy singers – 2020

Introduction

India’s music is always kept alive by the nurture of established musicians making friendships, collaborations and encouraging young singers. These interactions are where its music get enriched by sharing knowledge between mentors, poets, musicians and listeners. In this short account we want to bring a few very young promising singers we thought might make a difference in the year 2020. The order in which these singers are presented here have nothing to do with their talents. Their social media profiles and the singing evident from their posts make a strong argument that they are potentially some of the best singers currently.

Prithvi Gandharv

Prithvi Gandharv, a disciple of famous play back singer Hariharan is our first pick. He seem to be poised for big time in India’s Ghazal music. In 2015 he came to public eye when he got his chance to sing for the movie Bajirao Mastani, song Deewani Mastani. Although not a single the movie and the song is to his credit which is a great thing. Hugely talented Prithvi, never got the break he need. He seems to be interested in the Ghazal singing and Urudu poetry. He comes out as a very talented singer to note in the coming years.

Prathibha Singh Baghel

Her music speaks better than anything. A super talent with her voice that is crystal clear combined with excellent vocals makes this girl one of the most promising singers of present day.

Meenal Jain

Raveen Anand

An amazing singer who have tremendous potential yet remain largely unnoticed. We found her music and singing at such outstanding quality, wanted to bring her to notice and she is a part of smule community.

Amrit Ramnath

Amrit is most looked up , definitely one of the finest young singer of 2020. Partly it is due to the fact that he is the son of none other than legendary Bombay Jayashree. His singing is soulful and Amazing with a capital A. Although there should not be any favoritism he is the closest young talent for personal likes.

Abby V

Abby lives in Toronto and he recently interviewed for TOI (read it here). He is trained in Carnatic music by Ranjani and Gayatri, and he came with this amazing talent of remembering 73 ragas from Carantic (hopefully the video is not edited). Yet the youngsters love for Carantic music is adorable and very infectious.

This note is about just few of singers we noticed during this first quarter. If we missed someone out there who feel left out, just send us a note, we will include you in the mid year write up. The best thing happened during lock down was, celebrities and upcoming artists came on line like no other time. The live jams on YouTube and Instagram was a very entertaining time we spend and see a variety of vibrant music collaborations.
