Tarangini- A superstar from Tripura

Date:

INTRODUCTION

Tarangini (Tanusree Bhattacharjee) is our very first featured artist on Smule India from any Northern States. She wanted to have her earlier written feature replaced with this feature.

Her feature was a pivotal point in the efforts here, to find talents from corners of India that have not been in the limelight for a long number of years. There are many eastern states that had been not getting enough opportunities in obtaining mainstream attention or grabbing opportunities. Smule app in India or anywhere in the world gave a tool in the hands of singing talents to reach the world to its ~50 million active subscribers.

Looking back at the tasks we had in hand, when started writing features it was intentional that we will not be blinded by the regional preferences, but pure talents. Tarangini’s profile a second time, it is still a happy decision, and to redo this a second time with a lot more new information about her music. Hope you guys will enjoy this feature as much we enjoyed rewriting it for Tanu.

Tarangini- A superstar from Tripura

A girl grew up in Tripura in a joint Bengali family

Tanusree Bhattacharjee. People may not recognize me from the same name on Smule because on Smule I am known as Tarangini. My friends says my SmuleID justify my singing on Smule, because they say my singing is like a Tarang (wave) very smooth.”

“I grew up in the great state of Tripura in a joint Bengali family where my grandparents, my mom all were musicians, all the time lullabies and music what I heard when I grew up. I think all those little things made a long lasting effect on me. At home from a very small age itself I was exposed to many different genres of music and we had an enriched culture with some of my cousin brothers who played tabla ( an eastern type of membranophone percussion instrument) and some of them were also very good singers themselves; they all made always an environment of music at my home. As a child I joined them in singing and practiced singing a lot and that made me so familiar to singing. I learned the basics of swaras like sa re ga ma sargam and some baby Rabindra sangeet from them and was my earliest lessons from my family.”

A school environment that help grow her talent

“After not too long, at school teachers noticed my talent in the group events that I used to participate in. It was them who suggested that I must learn music properly. The very same time my dad and mom also were told to have me get trained in music by my school teachers.

That is when I remember I started my training in music from private teachers. I was just 4 yrs old”

“Then two or so years I spent practicing my songs in teaching sessions, but I was so young I was not eligible to take exams in a music degree. Later I joined Sangeeth Vidyalay In Tripura Dharamanagar. I spent a lot of my time in that school learning music. By the way, Dharmanagar is my own home town where I grew up and learned everything I know, and that place has a special place in my formation. I am now settled in Assam after my high school education where I did my bachelors and masters.”

“My singing classes, as I told you, were a part of my life throughout my early adulthood. Meanwhile, I passed all exams in music degree with distinction, all my teachers gave me a lot of encouragement. I got a lot of opportunities to show my talent in school festivals.”

“Side by side I participated in all cultural programs at the school. I was given the opportunity to be the lead singer at my schools. I had a special music teacher who guided me through my singing. All other teachers at my school as well encouraged me. I was not giving much attention to my studies, still everyone was very kind to me. In fact, my attention to studies was less than what I gave for my music. I studied my lessons just to have my parents be happy till 10th standard.”

“Having said that my mom and dad always encouraged me in my singing, or say for any other family members the encouragement I got was tremendous. My folks back home whenever they meet my parents, they all ask about my singing to them. It is a whole village that nurtured my music. It is that kind of closeness to my place.”

Now I am settled in Assam, but whenever I go back home to Tripura all of them know me as the girl who can sing. Some of my school teachers regularly check with my uncles back home about my music .

A continued learning in Traditional Music and Visharad degree

“All these encouragements and I want nothing better and am are very happy to be like this in my life. It is such a happy thought that they all still remember my singing. I had passed my degree (Visharad) from the Bangiya Sangeet Parishad in Tripura. and I also have learned Radindra Sangeet and Nazrul geeti for five years. I have also learned a lot of traditional style music and folk songs. I remember whenever I sang them for my folks they all appreciated it much.

“Even when I came out of Tripura I lived in Assam I was lucky to have a private teacher at the Bhatkhande music Institute which is under the University of Lucknow. I did a second Sangeeth Visharad degree. I did all my higher studies from Assam and in my free time I have spent time learning orchestra programming. It is getting a bit tough now to find time for music with my current lifestyle.”

About My Music

“Music is something that takes me to a world of utter relief, it makes my heart smile..it inspires me sometimes and boosts my confidence..It sometimes make me realize that my problem is not bigger than others. In a perfect manner it is a universal language..
Music is like my soul mate who remains always with me in my happy and bad times. I am deeply thankful and blessed by god that I am connected with this art form. “

An encounter with Smule App

“I used to just start singing whenever I could. Youtube was my major source for hearing new music and singing. I used to share my recorded songs with friends. It was my close friend Priya who introduced me to Smule app and ever since it was a ride that I still can’t believe. Such an appreciation from followers and friends that I made here. I can’t be more thankful for this.

“The very idea of singing with all the orchestra where I used to have my family members playing live background music for me before. Now on this app I can sing with the original track and that too with such recording quality. I still remember the date I joined Smule. It was March 7th 2017 and I used the app on a trial version and sang one song and the next minute I decided to buy the membership. It felt it that perfect. It was a love at first sight.” Many of our readers can relate to this thought well, we guess.

“The few things I remember, as a major effect of using the app on my singing are: I was totally out of touch with my practice. But singing on the app bring all that Riyaaz (practice) time back to me. Just sitting home and able to record songs is a mind blowing experience.”

“I had been singing on this app for three years straight. The love then and now I see from my followers is so heartwarming. I have received great advice from many friends which made me a strong singer today. I want to thank everyone at this time for the kind of support that I can’t thank enough. I am lucky that I receive appreciation from all the people in the world. I was not known anywhere else other than my home town before I joined the Smule.”

“It is my fortune apart from the good features of this app, I am fortunate to get a lot of followers, and if this lead to a great opportunity to sing play back that is what my biggest dream.”

“When I look back it was blessings from my parents who brought me up in an environment that nurtured my talents. My friend Priya is the reason I joined Smule. I can’t thank her enough.”

A time to thank Friends

“I want to thank few of my friends from Smule. Deepti_B smule id ) whom I called with love Deepti Di; (@sing_Shiza) who is from Calcutta and @DR_Apurba who lives in Bangladesh and these are my two Bengali friends I really want to thank specially here.

@_ra_vi mera yaar
being there for me in my sadness and happiness

Not to miss many I also want to specifically thank all my West Bengal family on Smule.

“Last but no the least, to all other friends from Smule that I have no opportunity to thank otherwise I am using this feature to thank all of those people whose names are not called; Please forgive me hope you all will understand. You all gave me immense support through all these years and please be always there for me, MANY THANKS”

Smule gave this beautiful platform and more beautiful is all the people on it stood with me and everyday motivate me to sing more and all those beautiful people who joined me to encourage me and develop their talents.
