My air fryer series is continuing in full rigor and I can not love it more! I am just so in love with this kitchen marvel called ‘air fryer’ that I can’t get enough of it!

It’s time now to make some delicious seafood in my favorite kitchen gadget and what could be better than the popular air fryer tandoori prawns to kick it off?

I am sure you would have already made tandoori prawns in your conventional oven.

But the air fryer would make your life so easy that once you start making these in your air fryer, you will bring these delicious tandoori prawns on your dinner table on repeat! I bet!

A classic tandoori prawns are simply the chargrilled prawns that are marinated in quintessential tandoori marinade!

When you cook your tandoori prawns in your trusty air fryer, they become these sensational air fryer tandoori prawns!

4-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsIngredients for air fryer tandoori prawns

Prawns/Shrimps: For the classic restaurant style tandoori prawns, use the jumbo prawns as they absorb the flavors of all spices perfectly and also retain their juiciness even under the high heat.

Smaller prawns will shrink even more after being grilled in high heat and you will not taste the best of tandoori prawns.

5-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsGreek yogurt: Using the thick & creamy Greek yogurt is a must to make the mind-blowing tandoori marinade for your air fryer tandoori prawns!

Greek yogurt has very little water in it, making it ideal for any marinade so that the spices and aromatics adhere to the food beautifully making them remarkably delicious!

Oil: Mustard oil works best in any tandoori recipe and this air fryer tandoori prawns are no exception too. But if this oil is too pungent for you, feel free to substitute it with any milder oil.

6-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsAromatics: Ginger and garlic paste infuse the yogurt with that quintessential Indian flavor without which such recipes are incomplete. You can adjust the amount based on your liking.

Spices: To make crazy delicious air fryer tandoori prawns with right flavors, you need to use the right spices; so do take note!

Use good old turmeric powder for that vibrant yellow color, Kashmiri chilli powder for that classic tandoori vibes, coriander powder for the earthy notes and garam masala for warmth!

Seasoning: Add salt to taste to bring together the flavors of all aromatics & spices and prepare them to give their best performance!

8-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsHow to make air fryer tandoori prawns?

Step 1: Peel and devein the prawns keeping their tails intact. Wash them nicely, then pat dry using a kitchen towel.

Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, add the Greek yogurt. Then add all the other marinating ingredients one by one – mustard oil, ginger & garlic paste, turmeric powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt.

9-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsStep 3: Using a wire whisk, give everything a good mix to make a homogeneous mixture. Take your time at this stage so that spices do not remain clumped at one place and everything is evenly mixed.

Step 4: Now drop all the washed & dried prawns into the tandoori marinade and using a spatula start stirring to coat each prawn thickly with the yogurt mixture.

10-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsStep 5: Once you are happy, let the prawns marinade and soak all fantastic flavors for about an hour or even overnight in the refrigerator.

Step 6: When you are ready to cook your tandoori prawns, preheat your air fryer to 190 C / 375 F and set the timer to 12 minutes.

11-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsStep 7: Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with oil to prevent sticking. Once the air fryer is preheated, transfer all the marinated prawns into the basket.

Pro tip: Reserve if you have any leftover marinate in the bowl.

Step 8: Arrange the prawns inside the air fryer basket in a single layer without overlapping with each other and start air frying till halfway through cooking time.

13-Air Fryer Tandoori PrawnsStep 9: Then take out the basket and flip each prawn over using a tong. Brush any leftover marinade over the flipped side of the prawns.

Step 10: Spray little more oil over the prawns and continue air frying your tandoori prawns for the remaining cooking time.

Step 11: Your delicious air fryer tandoori prawns are done! Serve them on a platter with lemon wedges on the side, garnish with fresh coriander and enjoy!

Air Fryer Tandoori Prawns | How to Cook Tandoori Shrimps in Air Fryer

  • Greek yogurt – ½ cup
  • Mustard oil – 2 tbsp
  • Ginger paste – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder – 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 & ½ tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp

Instructions
