Axar Patel credits the BCCI’s ‘Test incentive scheme’ for inspiring future generations

In recent times, the domestic structure has seen several red-ball players playing in domestic competitions like the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy. The players have been devoted to the format, even more than before.

Axar highlighted that the Test incentive provided by the BCCI under Jay Shah’s plans has drawn players to the red ball format. It has also led to Indian players being more determined to feature in international Test cricket. He pointed out how Jay Shah had supported the domestic players during COVID.

“The test incentive scheme is such a great motivation for youngsters to pursue more red-ball cricket. Even during COVID times when we didn’t play much, Jay bhai backed the domestic men’s & women’s teams financially,” he added.

Axar Patel will lead Delhi Capitals for the second time in IPL 2026

The Indian all-rounder will be seen leading the Delhi Capitals franchise for the second time in the IPL. Delhi Capitals picked Axar as their lead all-rounder for multiple seasons and he has been delivering for them consistently.

He was one of the few retained players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Under his captaincy, the Capitals finished fifth in the points table in 2025 and missed out on a playoff spot by just a small margin.

The Capitals skipper has been an extraordinary contributor for India as well. He can take the ball in any phase of the game, be it the power play or the death overs. Also, Axar is very adept at batting in any position within the batting order and can play both consolidating and accelerating roles.
