Sunil Narine Returns for KKR, Varun Chakravarthy Doubtful

Thursday’s clash between three-time title holders Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants could mark Cameron Green’s long-awaited return to bowling, if conditions allow. Not since his back operation has the Aussie all-rounder delivered a ball in anger this campaign. Slowly easing through net sessions, he pushed himself fully just days ago ahead of the game versus Punjab Kings. On Monday, pace returned to his run-up, effort visible in every stride. Then Tuesday brought more overs – until clouds rolled in, practice halted mid-session by sudden lightning. Hope lingers around his potential impact, especially with KKR’s attack still feeling thin.

Ahead of their game with LSG, Green worked out at nets for more than half an hour, fully focused – until a sudden storm rolled in. Wind howled, rain poured, lightning flashed; training stopped short because of it.

Now past the 10-day mark since Cricket Australia suggested Green might resume bowling within 10 to 12 days, he seems set to deliver in a real game again. Yet time has moved forward, expectations shift; his return feels closer than before.

Missing Green on the bowling front shook up KKR’s setup, more so when others also dropped out – Mustafizur Rahman pulled back, while Harshit Rana and Akash Deep limped off with knocks.

That last match versus Punjab Kings – called off after just 3.4 overs – saw KKR missing their two main spin bowlers too, Sunil Narine sidelined with stomach trouble, Varun Chakravarthy out due to a hand problem.

Fresh off recovery, Narine prepares to rejoin – yet Chakravarthy’s path back still hangs in limbo.

Fingers taped up, the Indian spinner worked through indoor drills. His hands showed signs of strain while practicing inside.

Right now, Chakravarthy’s not taking wickets – still waiting after two games this season. His form feels thin, stretched tight by quiet overs without reward.

Lately, Green hasn’t found rhythm while batting – his tally reads 18, then just 2, followed by a brief 4 across three appearances. His timing at the crease feels off, each innings raising more questions than answers.

Still, KKR haven’t let go of faith in their priciest foreign recruit; seeing him bowl again might take weight off both sides of the game.
