KKR Blame Umpiring Error for Third Straight Loss

For the second day in a row, the IPL 2026 kept fans on the edge of their seats, with another game going right down to the last ball. Lucknow Super Giants needed 7 runs off 2 balls, and Mukul Choudhary was facing. He smashed a six, then took a single to wrap up the chase for 182. The KKR camp, though, can’t stop talking about the umpiring decision that sent their star Finn Allen back to the pavilion.

KKR’s overseas batter Rovman Powell didn’t hold back after the match. Reporters asked him about the controversial catch near the boundary involving Digvesh Rathi. Powell called it a clear umpiring blunder. He just couldn’t figure out why the officials didn’t check every possible replay to see if Rathi’s foot had brushed up against the boundary rope cushion.

“Of course, they should have checked more angles. We talked about it after Finn came in. We’ve seen umpires go upstairs for much smaller incidents — this was as close as it gets. Maybe they blundered, but we’re not going to sit here and blame that alone for the loss,” Powell told the media.

If Allen had hit a six instead of getting caught, KKR would’ve bagged 6 extra runs. That could’ve flipped the match in their favor.

KKR actually looked good when LSG needed 30 runs from the last two overs. But Mukul Choudhary turned things around with an unbelievable finish.

“It’s disappointing. You want to make Eden Gardens your fortress. It’s your home, and fans back you every time you play here. Winning at home always means more. Sadly, it didn’t happen tonight,” Powell said.

He also gave his team credit: “We put up 181. Everyone believed it was enough. The youngster—he played an incredible knock.”

So, the Knight Riders are still searching for their first win of the 2026 season. Three losses, and one match lost to rain—no wins yet for KKR.
