A funny moment in the 20th match of the ongoing IPL 2026 has now turned into a costly mistake for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, Tim David. The Australian star’s light-hearted act on the field ended up getting him into trouble after RCB’s 18-run win over Mumbai Indians.

The whole drama started in the 18th over when Tim David smashed a massive six off Hardik Pandya during RCB’s innings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The hit was so powerful that the ball got damaged and also became wet, so the umpires decided to change it.

When the box of replacement balls came in, David picked one and started playing with it in a fun way. The umpire asked him to give it back repeatedly, but the RCB batter continued playing with the ball, seemingly teasing the match official during the live game.

The umpire did not like what the RCB batter was doing, as a small delay was enough to annoy him. However, he later returned the ball to the umpire. Interestingly, Rohit Sharma also joined in the moment, sharing a laugh with David.

But after the match, the match officials took this incident seriously. He irked the umpires after inspecting the ball during the match on Sunday (April 12). Since David did not follow the umpire’s instruction right away, he was penalized by the IPL Governing Council as per the rules.

Tim David has now been fined 25% of his match fee for not following the umpire’s instructions during RCB’s clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The official announcement is expected soon.
