The Bombay High Court has granted interim relief to Palash Muchhal in connection with allegations that his wedding with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana was called off due to claims that he cheated on her. Observing the allegedly defamatory nature of statements made during the controversy, the court has refrained Vidnyan Mane from issuing or publishing any further remarks against Palash.
The Court also observed that such comments can affect a person’s reputation and dignity. Appearing on behalf of Palash, advocate Shreyansh Mithare described this as a significant moment for his client.
Palash and Smriti’s wedding was called off suddenly, following which rumours started to float that the singer had cheated on the cricketer. A couple of months after the incident, Vidnyan Mane, who claimed to be present at the functions, said that Palash was caught red-handed with another woman in bed and was beaten up by Smriti’s colleagues and friends.
He said, “I was at the wedding celebrations when he was caught red-handed with another woman in bed. Bhayanak scene tha, he was beaten up by the Indian female cricketers. The entire family is chindi chor. I thought he’d get married and settle in Sangli, but it has completely backfired on me.”
The Bombay court has now restrained Mane from issuing any statement regarding Palash until further proceedings. Mane claims that he is Smriti’s childhood friend. He also accused Palash of cheating him out of Rs 40 lakh and filed a complaint in Sangli.
Palash, however, refuted these rumours and called them baseless and factually incorrect.
He wrote, “In light of the allegations made by Sangli-based Vidnyan Mane on social media, I wish to state that these claims against me are entirely baseless and factually incorrect. They have been made with malicious intent to tarnish my reputation, and they will not go unchallenged. My lawyer, Shreyansh Mithare, is exploring all legal avenues, and this matter will be dealt with strictly through the appropriate legal channels.”
Palash further filed a Rs 10 crore defamation case against Mane and sent a legal notice.
