Delhi Capitals managed to equal an almost 10-year-old IPL record even before the first ball of their IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings was bowled.
DC are sixth on the points table with three wins and three losses each. But remarkably, they have won the toss in all 7 matches this season. Punjab Kings are currently unbeaten with 5 wins and 1 no-result in their six matches. They are now at the top of the points table and will want to keep that going.
Delhi Capitals equal stunning record
DC won the toss in all 7 matches this season and carried over their streak of 2 from the end of last season. This means that they have won the toss in nine consecutive matches now.
Nine consecutive toss wins are a joint IPL record. It was first set by Sunrisers Hyderabad across the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and equaled by Chennai Super Kings again in 2019.
Most consecutive tosses won in the IPL
9 – Sunrisers Hyderabad (2015-16)
9 – Chennai Super Kings (2019)
9 – Delhi Capitals (2025-26)*
8 – Chennai Super Kings (2018-19)
8 – Rajasthan Royals (2023)
Toss was inconsequential- Shreyas Iyer
At the toss, DC captain Axar Patel and Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer both said that their team did not contain any changes from their previous matches.
Patel won the toss and decided to bat first in the afternoon match. Iyer said that he wanted to bowl first, so both captains got their wish.
“Dry pitch, it’s a day game very hot too. Hope to put up and defend a good total. Looks like the pitch will play slow, bowlers will look to use what’s on offer. We have been playing well but aren’t winning crucial moments. We’ve made silly mistakes and need to stop those, in the field and at important moments. Same team,” Axar said.
“Boys have turned up well. It’s scorching hot but there are no complaints. That’s how we want it to be. We need to keep training hard and get better all the time. We have to keep enjoying the game. I’d have bowled first, had a small discussion with Axar. He said he’ll bat. Toss was inconsequential. Same team,” Shreyas Iyer said at the toss.
Delhi Capitals look to turn season around
Being placed sixth on the points table, the Delhi Capitals will be looking to turn their season around. Currently, two other teams are tied with DC at six points each.
The Capitals’ main aim, especially after batting first, would be to improve their net run rate, which is currently in the negative. But depending on what happens in the night game on Saturday, even a win may not be enough to push Delhi Capitals onto the top half of the points table.
