Music that inspires

There are many Smule-initiated programs that one may look forward to participating in and being heard. One of those is profiles of fans’ pages. This week we are visiting a particularly important profile @alkaYagnikfc and its leader Dipenti Das @DIPENTILEENA. Here is a little bit more about the administrator of this profile. 

My name is Dipenti Das. Smule id- @DIPENTILEENA.

I am from Kolkata, my birthplace is Malda, a small town in West Bengal. My nickname is Leena. By profession, I am a criminal lawyer, a member of the bar council of West Bengal and the bar council of Delhi. I am a proud alumnus of North Bengal University, Darjeeling (BA.LLB (Hons)). But my other love and talents are singing, drawing, and my hobby is watching TV.

Music

A bit more about my music. From my childhood, I began my formal training in music at the age of six. From a great cultural background in West Bengal, I naturally lean toward learning Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti both being a part and pastel of Bengali life. Apart from my academic degree in Law I also got my degree in classical singing from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad. 

My fondest pass time is listening to music on the radio and on TV shows. I love listening to many singers like Alka Yagnik, Asha Bhosle, late Lata Mangeshkar ji, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sadhna Sargam, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, late Kishore Kumar ji, Mohammed Rafi ji, Arijit Singh and many more ghazals of Jagjit Singh and Mehdi Hassan are few male singers I listen and like a lot. As far as singing, I like to sing Bengali songs of Lata Ji, Asha Bhosle, Arati Mukherjee, and Sandhya Mukherjee, Subhasmita. Looking back over these years I say I was proactive as far as my musical talent was concerned. I participated in many music competitions during my younger age in school days and won many accolades.

A dream

My association with music started at an exceedingly early age due to my parents’ love and passion for music; however, it was not until around my university days that I seriously looked at music. Then and now I realize that my love for music was beyond just a casual hobby. After marriage, my husband inspired me to carry on music. One of his gifts that I value is a harmonium that helps me do my practices. 

Smule is no doubt an excellent platform and has given a lot of singers who are passionate about music a fantastic platform to highlight their talent. To me personally, it has been a great learning experience overall as I’ve not only had the opportunity to explore myself but also have had the opportunity to sing along with and learn from some extremely talented people. In the process, I’ve also been able to make some amazing friends who have become more like family now. It’s amazing how an online app has been able to connect people from across the globe.

Music has somehow become an integral part of my life. As cliche as it may sound, it does help me express my emotions and lift my mood on a dull day. 

Apart from all these, on Smule, I was fortunate to have won many contests. I am the administrator of a verified fan club called @alkayagnikfc. Alka Yagnik FC is an extremely popular official ID in Smule. As part of the Smule India community recently a competition was held on Alka Yagnik Ji’s Birthday. The winning songs are added at the end of this write-up (See below).
