Delhi Capitals have struggled to keep up their good form after having started the competition on a high note. The Capitals won two of their three early games and only started losing after missing out on their third win against the Gujarat Titans, when Axar Patel’s side lost the game by just one run.
The Delhi Capitals have not had a very successful season, as they have now faced five losses after having featured in a total of 8 matches in this season of the competition. Though another loss for the Capitals has opened the chances for the Mumbai Indians to advance to the seventh position if they can manage to win their eighth game of this season of the IPL.
Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel looked clueless after their shameful batting show against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and gave a blunt verdict during the post-match interview. Axar Patel has failed tremendously as the skipper, while Hemang Badani has struggled as the coach of the Capitals unit.
Massive downfall for the Capitals as they get bowled out for just 75 against RCB
The Delhi Capitals have not proven to be a poor batting unit, as they have amassed many runs every time they have needed to score runs. However, this time they repeated a collapse that was similar to the first game of the IPL 2026.
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka have usually played a fine hand at the top, but DC brought in Sahil Parekh, the 18-year-old youngster, against the experienced bowling unit and benched senior pros like Abhishek Porel, Ashustosh Sharma, and Prithvi Shaw.
They lost six wickets with a score of less than 10 runs and ended the powerplay with just 13 runs on the board, the lowest score in the history of the powerplay. Abhishek Porel played a fine hand and was bowled out for just 75 runs in less than their quota of 20 overs.
Delhi bowlers look like minnows as RCB pulls off second-fastest chase in IPL history
Delhi Capitals bowlers, unlike the RCB bowlers, looked like minnows in front of the Royal Challengers batters. The RCB batting unit comprised Jacob Bethell, who handed them the momentum that was carried forward by Devdutt Padikkal after his dismissal.
Devdutt Padikkal cleared the fence with ease as he seemed to be batting on a totally different surface. Padikkal scored 34 runs off just 13 balls while striking at over 250 in a game where the DC batters have failed to score runs at an economy of even 5.
RCB completed the chase in the 7th over of the game, with Virat Kohli clearing the fence twice in the same over to wind up the chase within 6.3 overs. This was the second-fastest chase in the history of the IPL.
The game is such that there is no room for ifs and buts- Axar Patel
“Even I don’t know what happened. That’s why they say you have to be on your toes in cricket. We have to move on from this match,” Axar Patel looked clueless in his statement in the post-match interview.
“From today’s point of view, you can say it did effect, but you can look back; if the catches were taken or had we taken the single against GT, then momentum would have been with us. The game is such that there is no room for ifs and buts,” said Axar Patel, who looked unconvinced with their performance.
“You have to be positive; you had a bad day, and take the positives from the last 5-6 games. I wasn’t surprised; they are world-class bowlers. They swing it every ground, but if our openers or top order had played them out, then the result might have been different,” Axar Patel added.
