These rumored iPhone 18 Pro features may tempt you to upgrade later this year – 9to5Mac

Date:

Later this year, Apple will once again unveil a full lineup of flagship iPhones. It can feel like iPhone 17 Pro it’s still pretty recent, but actually – it’s been five months already. Of everything in the rumor mill, the iPhone Fold certainly sounds the most interesting – but there are still some interesting improvements coming to the iPhone 18 Pro.

More colors

One of the great benefits of switching from aluminum to titanium is that it is much easier to produce more attractive colors. We saw this last year with Cosmic Orange, and Apple could choose to do even more.

Rumors are always rumours, especially when they come almost a year in advance. A Weibo tipster claims that Apple is considering three additional color options on the iPhone 18 Pro: brown, purple and burgundy.

Funnily enough, they say there still won’t be a black option on the iPhone 18 Pro, despite that being the color most people would like to see. However, the iPhone 18 Pro looks like it will be much more vibrant!

The smallest dynamic island

Since its introduction in 2022, the Dynamic Island on the iPhone has remained the same size, even with the bezels fading significantly.

That’s apparently set to change this year, with Dynamic Island getting a little smaller. This is largely thanks to some components of Face ID being able to move below the screen. Earlier rumors tossed around the idea of a hole-punch opening, but it looks like that won’t be the case.

Best cameras

There are two main camera rumors with the iPhone 18 Pro.

For starters, both models will potentially gain an even better telephoto lens. Currently, the iPhone 17 Pro offers an f/2.8 telephoto lens and this has been the norm for quite some time. With the iPhone 18 Pro, we are expected to have a wider aperture for a stream – although they don’t go into specifics.

Additionally, Apple is considering a variable aperture for the main sensor, at least on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. This will give users additional depth control and flexibility when shooting during the day.

Apple modem

While Apple started debuting its own internal modems last year with the iPhone 16e and iPhone Air, all other iPhone models have yet to join the fun. This is mainly because Apple’s first generation modems do not support mmWave 5G.

However, this should change with the iPhone 18. This year, all iPhone models should use the C2 chip. A big advantage to that transition is the fact that Apple’s modems are much more efficient, resulting in much longer battery life without significantly larger batteries.

Moreover, some the rumors show that Apple’s C2 modem can support 5G connectivity via satellite, allowing you to have full access to data while away from a cellular network. Right now, the satellite connection is mostly useful for sending texts.

A20 Pro chipset

As is the case with almost every new iPhone, Apple will introduce the latest new silicon. Expect the new A20 Pro chipset to be used new 2nm process for the first time, resulting in significant increases in performance and efficiency.

Similarly, Apple may introduce a improved network chip with the N2, after first debuting the N1 in the iPhone 17 line last year. We do not have additional details for N2 at this time.

Bigger battery

Lastly, the iPhone 18 Pro will include an even larger battery than iPhone 17 Pro. This sounds like a given, but there have actually been a few instances where Apple has reduced battery capacity between iPhone generations.

EARLY show leaks that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will come with a battery of about 5200 mAh, compared to 5088 mAh in iPhone 17 Pro Max. That’s not much, but as my colleague Ryan writes: battery capacity isn’t everything.

With a slightly larger battery, efficiency gains from Apple’s modems and the latest generation of Apple Silicon, the battery gains may seem larger than the numbers would suggest.

end

In general, if you are an Apple fan who skipped iPhone 17 Pro – iPhone 18 Pro can offer the level of polish that makes you feel like you’re upgrading.

To put the cherry on top, rumors indicate that there will be no price increase. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max should remain at $1,099 and $1,199, respectively.
