Did Brett Lee just drop a hint about his future planning involving the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)? Fans are in awe as one of the best fast bowlers of all-time makes a shocking comment, which could be a hint.
Lee’s comment has dropped amid the poor performance of the Kolkata Knight Riders, the former team of Brett Lee. Lee played for the Kolkata-based side in three consecutive seasons, from 2011 to 2013 Indian Premier League seasons. In one of the Instagram posts of the former cricketer, a cricket fan, in a comment, expresses the wish to see the legend as the bowling coach of KKR. Lee replied.
After a spell with the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Brett Lee joined KKR ahead of the 2011 season. He played for the team till the 2013 season. During this time, he played 25 matches for Kolkata and picked up 16 wickets, supported by an economy rate of over seven.
After the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KKR is one of the most successful teams in IPL history with three titles. The third was claimed in 2024. In 2025, they failed to qualify even in the play-offs, and in the ongoing season, another report card with poor grades is expected to come.
Lee cheers up for the Kolkata Knight Riders
Brett Lee, who last played for the Knight Riders back in 2013, has feelings for his former franchise. He believes that the team could make a massive turnaround in the slum. Lee further expressed that he spent some of his best years with the Purple Brigade.
“One year ago today – KKR vs Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens. There’s no atmosphere in world cricket quite like it. The Knights faithful are something else. And what a Super Over last night in Lucknow! Let’s keep it rolling, Kolkata Knight Riders. Some of the best years of my career were in this jersey,” the 49-year-old said.
Currently, former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee is the bowling coach of the team. Like Lee, Southee also served the franchise for three years as a seam. Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, and Shane Watson are also with the coaching set-up to support the head coach, Abhishek Nayar.
Is Lee to become the next bowling coach of KKR?
With a whole new coaching set-up and a bunch of new players, KKR is struggling to maintain momentum. After playing 8 matches, they are currently in the 8th spot of the IPL 2026 points table with only a couple of wins. One of those two wins came against the Lucknow Super Giants after a super over.
One of the cricket fans on a social media platform commented, mentioning Brett Lee, “Will see you as bowling coach for KKR on day”. In reply, the former cricketer said, “Maybe one day”, which has sparked the speculations about Lee’s plans around the Kolkata Knight Riders.
