Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head was all praise for his opening partner Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2026. The duo, dubbed ‘Travishek’ ever since they got together in IPL 2024, have been one of the best opening partnerships in modern-day IPL cricket.
Head was speaking on the sidelines of SRH’s win over MI on April 29 when he described his working relationship with Abhishek and what makes them work well together. Head himself played an important knock of 76 as SRH pulled off the fourth-highest chase in IPL history.
He’s one of the best in terms of striking the ball against spin- Travis Head on Abhishek Sharma
Speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports after the match, Head said, “I know that if spin comes on, I just give him the strike. I probably haven’t played with a better spin-hitting batter ever. I think he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen in terms of ball-striking against spin.”
“I know in the Powerplay, we saw again in this game that teams have started to go off pace against us. So, it’s about getting him on strike and watching him go about his work. He puts teams under immense pressure. It’s a great partnership, we don’t have to talk too much”.
No player has scored more runs against spin in this year’s IPL than Abhishek Sharma. And nor has anyone hit more sixes than him against the tweakers this year. Abhishek also leads the fours chart against spin in IPL 2026.
His strike rate against spin in the IPL this year is the second best out of all players who have faced at least 25 balls of spin in the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2026
Abhishek is currently the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2026 with 425 runs in 9 matches at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 209.35. He has also made 3 fifties and a century in the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma has also hit 31 sixes in this tournament, which is the second highest by any batter. He is also one of only two batters to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings this IPL season.
During his 135* against Delhi Capitals, he had become the first Indian batter to hit 10 or more sixes in an IPL innings more than once, and also the first player in IPL history with multiple scores of 130 or more. Abhishek Sharma also leads the fours chart in IPL 2026 with 40 fours.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s next match
SRH are currently placed third on the points table with 6 wins in 9 matches. Of the three teams that all have 12 points each, SRH have the second-best net run rate.
After winning just one of their first four matches, SRH are currently on a five-match winning streak. Their next match is against a Kolkata Knight Riders side that is deeply in trouble. SRH will play KKR in a day game on May 3 in Hyderabad. The 2016 champions have already gotten the better of the 2016 champions once in the tournament before.
