Gujarat Titans label Jason Holder as ‘world-class’ replacement for Hardik Pandya

Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki was all praises for the side’s new Caribbean recruit, all-rounder Jason Holder.

Holder joined the Gujarat Titans only in IPL 2026 after previous stints at five other franchises, with the lengthiest one coming at Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Holder had to wait for his opportunity at GT and did not get in until their eighth match of the tournament.

Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 30, Holder enjoyed a particularly productive night. As GT bowled RCB out for just 155, Holder took 2 wickets and 3 catches – including a controversial one from RCB skipper Rajat Patidar.

With the bat, Holder made only 12 runs, but his stand of 30 with Rahul Tewatia put the game firmly in GT’s favour.

“Jason Holder is world-class” – Vikram Solanki

Solanki was speaking at the press conference after the match. Solanki said that despite playing for a long time, Holder was only getting better with each passing game.

“He has sort of proven across the years in international cricket and franchise cricket in the past how measured he is, and I think he is only getting better. He spoke about understanding his game and that, of course, comes with experience. Any player that has played for as long as he has, around the world as he has, led teams as he has, international teams and been part of different teams, starts to get an understanding of what should be done in any given situation, and Jason is certainly doing that,” he said.

In 2025, Jason Holder broke the record for the most wickets by a bowler in a single calendar year in T20 cricket.

“He is smart” – Solanki on Jason Holder

Solanki continued and said how Jason Holder has been important for GT with not just bat and ball, but also in his ability to read the situation of a match.

“We were very excited when he was part of the squad. He has had to wait his time before he got an opportunity, but since he got an opportunity in all of the games he has played, making good contributions and today in the field,” Solanki continued.

He has been brilliant with the ball, he has fantastic ability with the bat in terms of his ability to strike a cricket ball, but he is also quite smart in playing exactly the way he needs to given any sort of situation, and that partnership with Rahul Tewatia is exactly an example of that,” he added.

“He has added a new dimension to his game” – Solanki

Solanki was all praise for Holder’s physical attributes – namely his tall physique and physical strength.

“He is physically a strong guy, has great reach, leverage as far as the ball is concerned, so all of the technicalities are sort of covered off. He also is now bringing an added dimension, of being a really experienced campaigner and I think that’s what is playing out, that’s what we are seeing in front of us now,” Solanki concluded his point.

GT’s next match

GT will host Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 3 for their next match.

PBKS have had their unbeaten run snapped in the last match, while GT are buoyant with two dominant wins in a row. They will want to make it three in a row.
