Rumors of a possible internal rift in Mumbai Indians (MI) have grown after Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma skipped the team’s scheduled travel plans. Viral posts on social media showed both players leaving Mumbai airport for Chennai separately, which has sparked discussion during a difficult IPL season for the team.
The Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, are struggling in the tournament. They are currently placed ninth on the 10-team points table. With six losses in eight matches, the team now faces a must-win scenario and likely needs six consecutive victories to reach the 16-point mark required for playoff qualification.

Rohit Sharma remains doubtful for the upcoming match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a right hamstring strain he suffered against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Before retiring hurt after scoring 19 runs, he scored 137 runs at an average of 45.67 and a strike rate of 165.06 in four matches.
He scored 78 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), added 35 against Delhi Capitals (DC), and made 5 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) before getting injured against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12.
Jasprit Bumrah Endures Worst IPL Season as Mumbai Indians Struggle
Jasprit Bumrah is going through his worst IPL season. In eight matches, he has taken only two wickets, with a bowling average of 132.00 and a strike rate of 90.00, while conceding runs at an economy rate of 8.80.
He remained wicketless in his first five matches against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Bumrah later picked up two wickets but went wicketless again against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The absence of Rohit Sharma has also affected Mumbai Indians. The team has tried different combinations with Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton. Although Rickelton scored a 123-run century, the team still suffered heavy defeats, including a 103-run loss to CSK and failing to defend 243 against SRH.
Mumbai Indians Face Crucial Upcoming Fixtures
Mumbai Indians must win upcoming matches to keep their season alive. They will face Chennai Super Kings on May 2 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. After that, they will return home to play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium on May 4.
The Hardik Pandya-led team will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 10 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium. They will then face Punjab Kings on May 14 at the HPCA Stadium, where they must win to stay in contention.
In their final league matches, Mumbai Indians will travel to Eden Gardens to face Kolkata Knight Riders on May 20. They will then return home to play Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium on May 24, hoping key players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah regain form.
