19-year-old cricketer dies by suicide in India amid IPL 2026

Amid the ongoing IPL 2026 season, distressing news has arrived. A 19-year-old college student and an aspiring cricketer named Angel Gangwani committed suicide in Puducherry. The police are currently investigating the matter to find out why she chose to commit suicide.

According to a Times of India report, Angel Gangwani, the daughter of Kashmir Kumar. Kumar, who is a GST superintendent, has been residing in Chennai for the past 12 years. Along with dreaming of becoming a professional cricketer, Angel was a second-year BBA student at a private college in Velrampet. She lived in a rented room in Puducherry. The house owner also commented on the shocking death of the teenager.

Angel Gangwani was an aspiring cricketer

It is reported that Angel Gangwani was an aspiring cricketer, and to make further progress in the sport, she went for a selection trial for the Puducherry T20 cricket team held in Thutipet. She received training at a coaching centre in Thilaspet. She was not selected after the trial. It is now assumed that, because of the depression, she committed suicide.

According to the TOI report, “Angel was an aspiring cricketer who received training at a coaching centre in Thilaspet. She recently participated in selection trials for the Puducherry T20 cricket team held in Thutipet. Her name was not included on the final list of selected players. Following this disappointment, she reportedly became dejected and remained withdrawn, said her house owner P Durairaj, 54.”

The cricket coach tried to reach out over the phone first

The house owner further claimed that Angel Gangwani returned home at around 8 pm on Wednesday after the practice. Later, her cricket coach tried to contact him via phone, but she reportedly did not respond.

It is also reported that her coach, Kathirvel, visited her location and discovered his student hanging from the ceiling fan. She was quickly taken to a hospital in Kathirkamam, but by then, the doctors had nothing to do but to pronounce him dead.

“Durairaj, in his complaint, said Angel returned to her room around 8 pm on Wednesday after cricket practice. When her coach, Kathirvel, attempted to contact her over the phone later that night, she did not answer, the report further claimed.

“Growing suspicious, Kathirvel visited her residence and found Angel hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. He said he and her coach rushed her to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kathirkamam, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival,” it added.

The truth is yet to be revealed about cricketer

Despite all the claims and possibilities that could have gone wrong with her, the police have yet to find out the real reason behind the heartbreaking incident. As of now, no official statement has been received from the police. D Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating. Cricket fans will be waiting eagerly to receive a follow-up regarding this incident.
